Adah Parris (born 1971) is a British-Nigerian-Guyanese futurist, pattern navigator, and interdisciplinary artist. She is known for developing frameworks that integrate ancestral wisdom, systems thinking, and regenerative leadership to help organisations navigate complexity at the intersection of technology, culture, and ecology.[1] Parris is the Chair of Mental Health First Aid England and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. In 2020, Forbes Brazil named her one of the world’s most important futurists.Cite error: A <ref> tag is missing the closing </ref> (see the help page).

Early Life and Background

[edit]

Adah Parris was born in 1971 in the United Kingdom to a Nigerian Igbo father and a Guyanese mother. Her upbringing immersed her in West African and Caribbean traditions, shaping her approach to storytelling, systems thinking, and cultural transformation.[2]

Parris is neurodivergent, with a diagnosis of AuDHD (autism and ADHD), which she credits for her ability to recognise patterns across complex systems. Diagnosed later in life, she views her neurodivergence as central to her work in perception, intuition, and interconnectedness.[3]

Her ancestry includes Coptic Egyptian, Ashkenazi Jewish, South East African, West African, Southern Indian, Southern European, Caribbean, and South American roots. This diverse heritage informs her work on cultural diversity and systemic transformation.[4]

Education

[edit]

Parris describes herself as a lifelong learner who draws more from lived experience than formal education. Her intellectual curiosity has led her to explore fields such as philosophy, quantum mechanics, Indigenous knowledge systems, and shamanic practices.[5]

Career

[edit]

Frameworks and Methodologies

[edit]

Parris has developed several frameworks that challenge conventional leadership and innovation models:

Four Freedoms™ (2018): Explores the interconnection of identity, culture, economics, and ecosystems.[6]

Cyborg Shamanism™ (2019): A fusion of ancestral wisdom and technological innovation challenging WEIRD (Western, Educated, Industrialised, Rich, Democratic) perspectives in tech development.[7] [8]

The Myth of the Ego™ (2020): Examines links between colonialism, capitalism, and climate change while identifying psychological patterns within systems.[9]

The Elements Framework (2024): A regenerative model using Ether, Air, Fire, Water, and Earth to help organisations navigate complexity.[10]

Source Patterns™ (2025): Positions presence as humanity’s most advanced technology for addressing systemic challenges.[11]

The Presence Lab

[edit]

In 2025, Parris launched The Presence Lab, a strategic advisory practice focused on helping leaders recognise emerging patterns and develop regenerative business models during critical global shifts like surpassing the 1.5°C temperature threshold.[12]

Artistic Practice

[edit]

Parris explores transformation through visual art, performance, and immersive experiences. Her creative process incorporates lucid dreaming and ancestral wisdom.[14] In 2024, she co-produced The Future is Sound at Alexandra Palace Theatre—a multisensory event exploring sound as a tool for systemic transformation.[13]

Advisory Work

[edit]

Parris advises organisations across technology, education, finance, healthcare, and sustainability sectors. Her clients include Google, Unilever, Meta, NatWest Bank, and Oxford University. Her advisory work focuses on pattern recognition for strategic decision-making and ethical AI integration.[14]

Speaking Engagements

[edit]

Parris delivers immersive keynotes blending storytelling with interactive exercises:

TEDxAmsterdam (2021): What Type of Ancestor Do You Want to Be? – Introducing Cyborg Shamanism™.[15]

TEDxSoho: Finding Our Future in Ancestral Wisdom.[16]

The Future is Sound (2024): Demonstrating sound as a catalyst for systemic transformation.[17]

Publications

[edit]

Parris is writing her first book, Cyborg Shamanism and the Elements Framework, scheduled for release in late 2025 by Wiley. She has also contributed to leading publications on ethical technology and regenerative business practices.[18]

Parris has received numerous accolades:
