The Secret Agent is an upcoming drama film written and directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho. It stars Wagner Moura, Udo Kier, Gabriel Leone and Maria Fernanda Cândido. The film, a co-production between Brazil and France, follows Marcelo a teacher caught in the political turmoil of the final years of the Brazilian military dictatorship.[1]
Plot
[edit]1977, during the final years of the military dictatorship in Brazil, Marcelo, a 40-year-old teacher, fleeing from his mysterious past returns to Recife in search of some peace, but soon realizes that the city is far from being the refuge he is looking for.

Production
[edit]The film is written and directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho who wrote the script over three years.[3] It is produced by Cinemascopio and MK Productions.[4] The film marks Wagner Moura first Portuguese language production in eight years.[5][6] German actor Udo Kier also appears in the film, marking his second collaboration with Mendonça after Bacurau (2019).[7]
Principal photography took place during ten weeks in Brazil, with shooting taking place between Recife and São Paulo, and was completed in August 2024.[8]
