Teresa is a Mexican telenovela produced by José Alberto Castro for Televisa.[1] It is a remake of the Mexican telenovela of the same name produced in 1959.[2]

The series stars Sebastián Rulli, Aarón Díaz and Cynthia Klitbo, along with Angelique Boyer as the titular character.[3][4][5]

Plot

[edit]

This is the story of Teresa (Angelique Boyer), a beautiful and intelligent young woman who, despite being able to have everything, is blinded by her excessive ambition, which will cause her downfall.

Teresa was born poor and did not know how to accept her reality; her parents supported her to study and get forward, certain that with a career she would improve her cultural and economic level.

She also has the support of Mariano (Aarón Díaz), her first love… the only man Teresa will love throughout the story; but she loves him in her own way, not with that generous love that seeks to make the loved one happy despite one's own pain. Teresa's love is selfish, since she considers Mariano hers and no one else's and believes that he will never be able to fall in love with another woman.

She left him after three years of dating, because she was dazzled by the money of Paulo (Alejandro Nones), the best catch at the high school for the rich where she has been studying on a scholarship, calculating as she is and always having an ace up her sleeve.

When Paulo discovers that she is poor, he forgets the marriage engagement he had talked about and tries to make her his lover; but she rejects him and he, out of spite, becomes the boyfriend of Aída (Margarita Magaña). Aída and Paulo humiliate her, publicly displaying her poverty and her lies, so she decides to take revenge and swears that she will never be trampled on again, no matter the cost.

Teresa gets help from her professor, the prestigious lawyer Arturo de la Barrera (Sebastián Rulli), who pays for her studies and helps her make connections; she subtly wins him over and pretends not to notice the feelings she has awakened in him. At the same time, she resumes her relationship with Mariano, because she dies of jealousy upon discovering that her millionaire friend, Aurora (Ana Brenda Contreras), has fallen in love with him.

Teresa is not willing to wait for the love of her life to make a career and money, so she decides that Arturo suits her better. Pretending that her parents don't love her and that they even mistreat her, Teresa gets Luisa (Fernanda Castillo), Arturo's sister, to take her to live at the de la Barrera home; living there, she drives the professor crazy with love, to the point that he is about to burst out and confess his feelings to her.

Just when Teresa gets her degree and has enough relationships to practice her profession so as to improve her situation and finally be able to marry Mariano, she breaks up with him to accept Arturo with the idea that he will boost her career and take her to Europe.

When she is ready to accept Arturo's proposal, she meets Fernando (Daniel Arenas), Luisa's fiancé, a handsome, multimillionaire young man, descendant of a noble family and with the possibility of introducing Teresa to a more sophisticated world; her eyes shine at the thought of belonging to the jet set and being able to rub shoulders with the European nobility. Thus, she decides to despise Arturo and attract her best friend's boyfriend, who has more money and power.

Teresa leaves the de la Barrera home and makes Fernando believe that Arturo tried to rape her, finally managing to seduce him and become his girlfriend; but she still loves Mariano and is determined not to let Aurora conquer him.

Thus, Teresa, a heartless beauty, will destroy the happiness of those around her and the people who love her without a shred of remorse. But she does not realize that, inevitably, the moment of truth will arrive and life will call her to account.
