Sundostund, the content of this template is a bit misleading for its title, as it advocates republicanism rather than just democracy. Since it's a divisive and potentially inflammatory topic, I think it would be better suited in Userspace. --Paul_012 (talk) 15:06, 19 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Paul 012: Well, I have to disagree on that. Advocating republicanism in a country can hardly be seen as divisive and potentially inflammatory; it is a legitimate political position – which is, for instance, widely present in a number of Commonwealth realms, and we have related userboxes (just to name some: United Kingdomhere, Australiahere and here, Canadahere and here, New Zealandhere). So I don't see a particular need to userfy this template. — Sundostund mppria (talk / contribs) 15:33, 19 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
All but four of the examples you linked to are Userspace boxes, so userfying this one would keep them consistent. Also, it's not a legitimate political position in Thailand, where people have been jailed for expressing much weaker opinions. --Paul_012 (talk) 20:33, 19 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Paul 012: As you can see, four out of six userboxes related to British republicanism are not userfied, and I see no reason to act differently here. Also, Wikipedia is neither censored nor subjected to Thai laws/political norms, so we are not obliged to conform to lèse-majesté POV and limit users' right to express their opinion. — Sundostund mppria (talk / contribs) 20:55, 19 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not advocating censorship; only pointing out how your statement doesn't hold everywhere in the world. Anyway, looking further, all these political userboxes in Templatespace actually appear to be in contravention of consensus developed long ago. So is the index page you linked to, which was userfied as a result of MfD in 2009 but was moved back to Projectspace in 2020 by a now-blocked user. I'm tempted to just revert the undiscussed move, but it's been a long time, so maybe consensus has changed. I'll start a wider discussion at WT:Userboxes. --Paul_012 (talk) 21:03, 19 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
