I have edited the article to use the form discussed, and suggest that the following text could be appended to the template, perhaps in small print:
The format "{{Sic|Labor|ista|hide=y}}", will display as "Laborista", and may discourage some bots from "correcting" to Labourista or the like.

Not done I have corrected the relevant AWB spelling rule so that editors won't make be prompted to make this incorrect change in future. There is no need to encode the word any longer to stop it being damaged. If you see something like this happening again, post at WT:AWB/T so that the regulars there can debug and fix the spelling rules.
- Also, note that configuring an edit notice for AWB users to see isn't effective, because editors using AWB never see any edit notices. -- John of Reading (talk) 18:26, 25 November 2015 (UTC)
