Weird

[edit]

why is it that they keep putting dangerously in love in "other songs" ??? if you ask me, it should be for singles that she guest stared in.

Green Light

[edit]

"Green Light" is an confirmed single...so it should under "singles".

format

[edit]

i know that there have been some arguements over the format of this info box but the fact is that format is alot bigger then the one i want it to be. plus the infoboxes of several other beyonce related articles use this same exact format. i dont see the problem of leaving it as is. 24.61.65.220 02:52, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The format that this template is continually changed to does not follow the standards set here at Template:Navbox musical artist. The current format is more in line with the standards of that page, while the bigger format does not follow the standards. Acalamari 02:58, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Note that the format you just changed the page to does not follow the standards. All because other templates follow the wrong format doesn't mean this template should follow the wrong format. Acalamari 03:00, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Singles, non-singles and appearances

[edit]

I would like to suggest that singles should be separated with non-singles and appearances (whether its a single or not). --Efe (talk) 09:44, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fourth studio album

[edit]

You can't post 'Fourth Studio Album' (2010-2011) or TBA (2010-2011) in the template. Once an article for the fourth studio album has been created, then you can add it. It has not been confirmed yet when the album will be released. ozurbanmusic (talk) 20:37, 8 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It isn't really a tour, it is a residency. Maybe we can move it to related topics? I Help, When I Can. [12] 03:49, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well... it's a concert show. Maybe we should rename the section? Adabow (talk · contribs) 05:44, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Live and video

[edit]

I think we should merge the live and video albums sections (like this). There is pointless duplication which the current layout. —Andrewstalk 21:56, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Video Album is video album, Live albums are live albums, are diferents types. The beyoncé concerts are released in different types, DVD and CD/DVD or other. The combination of video and live albums would confuse the reader about it. B'Day Anthology Video Album is totally diferent of the I Am... World Tour, combiner this, is wrong. Silencio faz bem (talk) 22:05, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In that case, why not remove the live albums from the video album category? The current format, in my opinion, is even more confusing. —Andrewstalk 22:11, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I also find confusing. The question is, what format to use. For they were only released on DVD, and deluxe versions on CD/DVD.
  • Live at Wembley was released in DVD/CD only.
  • The Beyoncé Experience Live was released in DVD, and digital download.
  • I Am... Yours was released in DVD, digital download and CD/DVD (deluxe edition).
  • I Am... World Tour was released in DVD, digital download and CD/DVD (deluxe edition).
What format to use, Standart or Deluxe version? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Silencio faz bem (talkcontribs) 22:19, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Their formats are irrelevant in this navbox. They are all live albums, yes? So include them in the live section only or combine the two sections. —Andrewstalk 22:37, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Actually Andrew, the time you were not here, there has been much discussion going on about live albums and video albums. It all happened because unlike other singers, Beyonce does not release a CD of all her live recordings, which at the end of the day make them only a video albums. You can watch and listen to them but there are no audio CDs. Jivesh1205 (Talk) 04:49, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I understand and accept that (although I disagree), but that is irrelevant; there is still no need to duplicate the listings of those "live and video" albums (eg I Am World Tour) as is the current situation. [1] is an easy fix. —Andrewstalk 04:57, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I know it's irrelevant but you know how Wikipedia can be boring at times. I even had to move all those live albums to Beyonce's videography. Lol. Actually, those albums normally chart on DVD charts for Beyonce but if you see other artists like Gaga or Adele, they make the album charts. Jivesh1205 (Talk) 05:03, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Even so, there's no need for them to be listed twice in the navbox. It's confusing and cluttering. —Andrewstalk 05:11, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe. However, I did not oppose as I feel it's nice to help readers distinguish among a video-only album, live-only album and both video-live albums. Jivesh1205 (Talk) 05:19, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Readers can work that out from the articles themselves. I find the current more confusing with the duplicated listings. Also note WP:NAV: "Avoid repeating links to the same article within a template." —Andrewstalk 07:34, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Okay but we need to find a way to sort this out in the discography as well. Jivesh1205 (Talk) 07:49, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Adding Rise (Beyonce's New Fragrance) in the retail section of the page. 24.79.82.144 (talk) 04:51, 11 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The fragrance needs to have its own article on Wikipedia to be added to the navbox. Mayast (talk) 07:39, 11 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please insert Beyonce Rise into the retail heading, as this is a new fragrance with images, an ad campaign, and numerous legitimate references. Thank you. ArchArch1 (talk) 15:13, 2 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Not done As explained above, No article = No inclusion and there is currently no article for Beyoncé Rise, or Beyonce Rise - Arjayay (talk) 17:01, 2 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Soundtrack albums

[edit]

Please only add soundtrack albums where the artist is the main contributor. Do not add multi-artist compilation appearances where she is one of many contributing artists, or films where there are no dedicated soundtrack album articles. --woodensuperman 08:39, 5 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

To address these one by one:
  1. Carmen: Not a soundtrack article, but a film article. But, section described as "Soundtrack album by Various Artists" anyway
  2. The Fighting Temptations: Not a soundtrack article, but a film article. But, section described as "Soundtrack album by Various Artists" anyway
  3. Dreamgirls: Described as "Soundtrack album by Various Artists". To include here is WP:UNDUE as not mentioned on other artists' navboxes
  4. Cadillac Records: Described as "Soundtrack album by Various Artists". Beyonce appears on three tracks only
  5. The Lion King: Described as "Soundtrack album by Hans Zimmer and various artists". Beyonce appears on two tracks only
Inclusion here is not appropriate as per WP:UNDUE and WP:BIDIRECTIONAL it would be inappropriate to transclude this navbox on these pages. --woodensuperman 08:54, 7 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Also note the fact that she is an actress in these films is irrelevant per WP:FILMNAV. --woodensuperman 09:32, 7 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
And for the Madonna parallels, please note these are all described as "Soundtrack album by Madonna" and each one has a dedicated article, not a section. --woodensuperman 09:33, 7 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
With this edit (as @UltimateDisco is point blank refusing to use the talk page, instead using the edit summary), editor has suggested parallels with "Mariah, Madonna, Whitney or any other major music star who also did acting roles and was majorly featured on those album soundtracks". Note that there are no soundtracks in {{Mariah Carey}} and the three in {{Whitney Houston}} are all described as "Soundtracks by Whitney Houston". {{Madonna}} I have addressed above. Just because someone "did acting roles" and "featured on those album soundtracks" is not sufficient for navbox inclusion. --woodensuperman 10:52, 7 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I see what you're saying @Woodensuperman, but I see both sides: the first four of these projects were released exclusively on Beyoncé's father's vanity label (Music World Entertainment) in partnership with her deal on Columbia Records, the same imprint and label her Destiny's Child and early solo projects were released on. Those four were posted here in acknowledgement of the fact the soundtracks probably would not have been released on the labels in question without Beyoncé's involvement, and in most cases she surpasses the 50% soundtrack contribution threshold for one's name to be added as a main soundtrack artist. This is why @UltimateDisco has been persistent in their reversions. Is this a personal choice of yours, or do you feel they need to be removed to save space? Answering these questions would probably give @UltimateDisco the clarity they seek. Cheers. Trainsskyscrapers (talk) 00:26, 8 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for contributing.
Unfortunately, they can’t answer those questions because they don’t know the source material, the context of the soundtracks, the Music World Label and the importance of these recordings in Beyoncé’s career.
they simply don’t know the material they are censoring out, and it REALLY shows. but they’re too proud to admit.
they treat everything as a case of “Beyoncé signing Work It Out for Austin Powers” or “a pop singer does on soundtrack song” when, in reality, her involvement with all THESE films and music recordings is MAJOR - the films were actually CREATED with the Beyoncé-led soundtracks in mind.
they are stuck these “what is an album” self imposed rules and failing at these own rules. The “50% on the album” rule, for example, totally made up and incongruent with The Bodyguard.
personal taste and musical knowledge (or lack of) shouldn’t dictate what people get to see of Beyoncé’s recording career.
but here it does. UltimateDisco (talk) 09:19, 8 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You really need a better attitude if you're going to continue to edit Wikipedia. Please be WP:CIVIL --woodensuperman 12:26, 8 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
From what I've seen here, you answer @UltimateDisco specifically in a really flippant tone... which would explain why they feel the respectful route isn't effective with you. I'll probably put the soundtracks back in a few, but I'll also add Dreamgirls to the Jennifer Hudson template (as 13/20 (standard edition) also exceeds 50% - she however does not exceed 50% on the deluxe edition). Trainsskyscrapers (talk) 16:12, 8 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Look who the albums are credited to. Various artists albums which are what these are are not suitable for navbox inclusion, and if it would be WP:UNDUE to place the templates on the pages, which it is for various artists albums, then per WP:BIDIRECTIONAL it is inappropriate to include them in the navbox. Take Dreamgirls for example. It is undue to include this in Beyonce's navbox if you're not including it in Eddie Murphy's, Jamie Foxx's and Jennifer Hudson's also. But it would not be appropriate to do so. --woodensuperman 12:25, 8 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Jamie Foxx and Eddie Murphy do not reach that 50% contribution threshold. Jennifer Hudson, Anika Noni Rose, and Beyonce do. All 3 will receive the album in their templates. Cheers. Trainsskyscrapers (talk) 16:13, 8 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Where's this arbitrary 50% coming from? The point is who the album is credited to. --woodensuperman 17:17, 8 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
TBH, I went off of 50% because it symbolizes majority or more than half.
I was curious so I asked Google: "To be considered a "main artist" on a soundtrack album, a musician would typically need to have a significantly higher percentage of the tracks on the album, often exceeding 50% of the total song count, with a substantial creative input and prominent role in the overall sound of the soundtrack. Key points to consider: No set standard. There's no strict industry rule defining the exact percentage needed, as it depends heavily on the specific project, artist involvement, and negotiation between the label and musician."
All four of the soundtracks in contention have Beyoncé:
(1) clearly influencing the overall sound
(2) releasing in partnership with her imprint/label (and hers alone, no one else was signed to them at the time)
(3) meeting or exceeding half of the total song count as a main artist
(4) providing substantial input both vocally and behind-the-scenes (writing, vocal production, etc)
(5) present and prominent on a majority of released singles that stand alone alongside the project for promotional purposes.
A case can be made for both perspectives, but I see a template (for a musical artist) as providing rudimentary knowledge of major projects they have created or participated in, as well as any songs that have become prominent on their own. Trainsskyscrapers (talk) 17:38, 8 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
But this is exactly why we should go with how the album is credited, picking your own criteria isn't how we do things. --woodensuperman 17:51, 9 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for including the relevant rationale for why these soundtracks are important landmarks on Beyoncé's carrer and have Beyoncé performing, writing, producing and executive producing them and Music World / Columbia (Beyoncé's label) major involvemnent in releasing and distributing them.
Beside all that, Beyoncé has been nominated and awarded for her contributions to these soundtracks, and some of their songs were integrated in her tours and performances, so they have a immense revelance in her carrer.
I have addressed the case of the soundtracks that lacked dedicated articles (Carmen and The Fighting Temptations) and linked them again to the navbox.
I hope before redacting Beyoncé's history based on their personal opinions, editors are able to study a bit the source material and stop treating Beyoncé's involvement on THESE soundtracks as "a simple tacked-in soundtrack song" (like Austin Powers, which is NOT listed there) but understand the context of them.
Context is everything. UltimateDisco (talk) 11:29, 13 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Pulse

[edit]

I just noticed the page for her second flagship fragrance Pulse has been removed. Has anyone worked on a well-sourced replacement for the old article? Trainsskyscrapers (talk) 00:29, 8 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I was only able to find it in Portuguese. https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beyonc%C3%A9_Pulse
Has the English version been deleted?
--
on a side topic, Ce Noir / Ce Lumiere also lack their articles.
do you think we should group them in a "Beyoncé Parfums" page? (since that's how they are being referenced on instagram - https://www.instagram.com/beyonceparfums) UltimateDisco (talk) 11:33, 13 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for discussing this recent disagreement

[edit]

I came across a perfectly valid request for full protection on this page this morning. I agree there's been a bit too much BOLD and REVERT, and not sufficient DISCUSS. Smart people often disagree. This is a monumental good thing. Since I see the discussion above (and the last edit of any kind was 22 hours ago), I'm declining the request. I see we can trust we can expect contributors here to act collegially. Thanks, page watchers for making this a simple decision. Let's keep the heat on talk. BusterD (talk) 15:15, 10 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for not locking the page and sharing wisdom instead of censorship.
I considered the reverter's concerns related to certain soundtracks lacking their dedicated pages, so I created new pages for them and provided reasoning why these soundtracks are relevant to Beyoncé's carreer.
I will continue to include sources that further explain her involvement on THESE soundtracks (like Beyoncé's credits, nominations and awards) and the impact their had on her carreer. UltimateDisco (talk) 11:37, 13 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
