Template:Shared intro
Template:Shared intro simplifies and documents re-use of an introductory/summary paragraph among multiple articles. Its primary use case is to make it easier to create a useful introduction to multiple list articles for a common topic, specifically to avoid and repair "this is a list" leads.
Usage
[edit]First, choose one article to contain the material to be shared. We'll call this the source article. Follow the guidance in WP:BEGIN and WP:FIRST in creating a useful summary intro; a typical intro for a list might summarize the introduction to the subject matter associated with the list. (A "List of My Mother the Car characters" might draw from the article for the My Mother the Car series, for example.)
In the source article, the material to be shared should now be identified as a labeled section by enclosing it with "<section begin>
" and "<section end>
" markup. The section label must be "shared intro".
Example:
<section begin="shared intro" />
A rail accident (or train wreck) is a type of disaster involving one or more trains. Train wrecks often occur as a result of miscommunication, as when a moving train meets another train on the same track, when the wheels of train come off the track or when a boiler explosion occurs. Train accidents have been widely covered in popular media and in folklore.<section end="shared intro" />
Once this has been set up, in each article that is to use the shared intro, add the line
{{shared intro|''<source article name>''}}
where the introductory paragraph would normally be placed.
Parameters
[edit]{{Shared intro | source article name }}
Examples
[edit]- Lists of rail accidents is the source article for its related lists; List of rail accidents (1930–1939) is an example of an article sharing that intro.
