This template is designed to be put on college basketball team pages (not season articles), similar to Duke Blue Devils men's basketball. It should be placed as the very first item in the main body of an article. For pages on women's teams, please use |women=yes.

Parameters

Required parameters

logo

The team's logo (e.g., image.jpg). If there is no separate logo for the basketball program, and the primary athletics logo is copyright protected, a wordmark for the school's athletics program may be available to use here, if it is in the public domain.

university or college or institution

The parameter chosen dictates the label in the infobox. Please use institution for a sponsoring institution that is designated as something other than a university or a college, e.g., United States Naval Academy. You may wikilink the data you enter here.

conference

The team's current conference, preferably wikilinked.

location

coach

The team's current head coach, preferably wikilinked.

tenure

Enter in ordinal format. A template can be used to make this entry evergreen and eliminate the task up updating it each year. For example, {{ordinal|{{age|2019|10|15}}}} produces 5th and will be updated each year on October 15. The word season will appear after the entry you make for this parameter.

arena

capacity

nickname

This can be wikilinked to the main article about the school's athletic program or to an article discussing the origin of the team's nickname.

NCAAchampion

List years of NCAA championships.

NCAAfinalfour

List years in which team participated in NCAA Final Four.

conference_tournament

List years in which team won its conference tournament.

conference_season

List years in which team won its conference regular-season championship.

List years in which team won its conference division season championship.

Optional parameters

name

This is often not needed. By default, the infobox should use the name of the page on which it is placed. However, if the background colors are not showing up properly in the headers, using this parameter and entering the team's full name may resolve the issue.

women

Set to yes for articles about women's teams. Some infobox elements specific to women's teams will not work without activating this parameter.

current

Enter the title of the current season's article. It will be automatically wikilinked.

logo_size

The size in pixels at which the logo should be displayed (defaults to 100x150).

athletic_director

Name of the school's current athletic director, wikilinked if possible.

studentsection

Name of student section. If it has an article on Wikipedia, tag it.

record

The team's all-time record.

firstseason or founded

The parameter used dictates the label that will display in the infobox. It is preferable to use firstseason and enter the season the team first started playing.

NCAAchampion3

For men's teams, list years of Premo-Poretta championships before the inception of the NCAA tournament in 1939.

For women's teams, list years of mythical national championships before the inception of the AIAW tournament in 1972, along with the name of the body designating the team as champions.

NCAAchampion2

List years of Helms Athletic Foundation championships before the inception of the NCAA Tournament in 1939.

bestfinish

This optional parameter will help reduce clutter in the infobox, particularly for teams that have been very successful in the NCAA tournament. The parameter does not apply to teams that have never reached the Elite Eight of an NCAA tournament. It can be used for either men's or women's teams. Activating this parameter will create a section of the infobox that will be collapsed when the page loads. Only the five entries listed below will work; any other entry will be ignored. This parameter should be used taking into account only the highest NCAA division affiliation in which the team has had success. For example, a team that has won the Division III tournament and appeared in the Final Four of the College Division (former name of Division II) tournament before 1974, should enter 4, not 1 for the bestfinish parameter. Similarly, for a team that has won the Division II tournament but has never been to the Elite Eight of the Division I tournament, no entry should be made for this parameter. Permissible entries for bestfinish are

1 = Won NCAA tournament

2 = NCAA tournament runner-up

3 = Won NCAA tournament third-place game

4 = Reached NCAA tournament Final Four

8 = Reached NCAA tournament Elite Eight

There must be data entered for the data parameter that matches the entry made for the bestfinish parameter. For example, if you enter 3 for bestfinish, but NCAAthirdplace is empty, the template will break, and the infobox will not display correctly.

If a team had a better finish in the Division II or III tournaments than it has in the Division I tournament, and an entry is made for this parameter, data for the Division II or III results will display in the collapsed infobox created by this parameter.

List years of NCAA tournament runner-up finishes.

NCAAthirdplace

List years the team won the NCAA tournament third-place game.

NCAAeliteeight

List years of NCAA Elite Eight appearances.

NCAAsweetsixteen

List years of NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearances.

NCAAroundof32

List years of NCAA round of 32 appearances only if the team has never reached the Sweet Sixteen. Entries in this parameter will not display in the infobox, unless the NCAAsweetsixteen parameter is empty.

NCAAtourneyrec

This parameter will display in the infobox only if NCAAsweetsixteen and NCAAroundof32 are both empty. It should be used for teams that have at least one NCAA Division I tournament win but have never reached the round of 32. Using this parameter for a team that has not won an NCAA Division I tournament game is redundant, since the number of losses the team has is usually apparent from the number of appearances it has made, which is rendered in the infobox by the NCAAtourneys parameter. Please do not enter wins and losses in NCAA Division II or III tournament games in this parameter. The header that will accompany the data entered here is NCAA Division I tournament record, and there is no option to change it.

Note: If a team has entries in either the NCAAsweetsixteen or NCAAroundof32 parameters for Division II or III Sweet Sixteen or round of 32 appearances and has won at least one game in the Division I tournament, consider what information is more relevant to readers. For a team that is currently a Division I institution that has lower-division NCAA Sweet Sixteen or round of 32 appearances in its past, displaying the Division I tournament record that includes at least one win may be more relevant. Also, if the team had lower division Elite Eight or better appearances, entering those will not prevent the NCAAtourneyrec parameter from displaying in the infobox.

Use this parameter only if the team's current conference is separated into divisions. Enter the name of the division to which the team belongs.

collapseconftour

Set to yes to activate this parameter. The conference tournament championships section of the infobox will load in a collapsed state. This is useful for teams that have won a large number of conference tournaments or have data showing in which conferences tournaments have been won to reduce the size of the infobox on initial loading of the page.

collapseconfregsea

Set to yes to activate this parameter. The conference regular-season championships section of the infobox will load in a collapsed state. This is useful for teams that have won a large number of conference regular-season titles or have data showing in which conferences regular-season titles have been won to reduce the size of the infobox on initial loading of the page.

notegroup

If there are data elements of the infobox to which notes, the details of which can be explained using {{notelist}}, have been appended, the group name used for these notes can be entered in this parameter. This will create an infobox header called Notes, and the footnotes will be displayed below the header.

onenote

Set to yes to activate this parameter, if there is only one footnote to be displayed in the Notes section of the infobox. The title of the header will display as Note instead of Notes.

collapsenotes

Set to yes to activate this parameter. This will cause the Notes section of the infobox to appear in a collapsed state on page load. This can reduce infobox clutter, particularly if there is more than one footnote.
