Qvadriga
- ... that the 2014 chariot racing video game Qvadriga was inspired by the 1979 board game Circus Maximus?
hahnchen 00:04, 6 December 2024 (UTC).
This is my first DYK review so let me know if I made a mistake. QPQ has been done. Article long enough (5032 characters), images licensed correctly, Earwig null results, article is well-referenced and presentable. Hook is verified and cited to a reliable primary source. However, I do not think the hook is interesting. Why should regular reader care that a video game is inspired by another board game? Ca talk to me! 02:25, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, the reason I chose this hook is because there's a large gap in between the board game and the video game. I thought it was interesting to show the board game's legacy. I can suggest other hooks which refer to chariot racing, like the forty-three hippodromes and circuses, but I felt that less interesting because they are all just presented from a top down view. - hahnchen 15:22, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- To me, the fact that this is a racing game based on turn-based tactics seem interesting, since most racing games are real-time. However, I don't know if WP:DYKFICTION applies here. Ca talk to me! 01:28, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- I think that it being a turn-based tactical racing game is interesting, it is certainly rare for a video game. Alt hooks suggested below, but I still prefer the original
- ALT1... that PC gaming website Rock Paper Shotgun named the turn-based tactics game Qvadriga as the best racing game of 2014?

- ALT2... that Qvadriga is a turn-based tactics chariot racing video game set in ancient Rome?
- * Source: https://www.eurogamer.net/qvadriga-review or http://www.turnopia.com/qvadriga/ or the game itself

I think the original hook is the most interesting due to the contrast of game years. But the alternative hooks are also good. Maybe more emphasis could be placed on the contrast between mobile game vs board game? Moondragon21 (talk) 15:13, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
@Hahnchen: hasn't edited in over a month. I think we're through here unless @Moondragon21: or anybody else wants to bail this out.--Launchballer 02:38, 25 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Launchballer: it would be a shame if this nomination was lost. That said I think the strongest hook is probably ALT1. Moondragon21 (talk) 15:07, 25 January 2025 (UTC)
- ALT0 was fine to begin with (The oddness of a board game (generally associated with slow, turn-based play) inspiring a racing game (generally associated with speed and reflexes) was enough to get me to read the whole article and every cited source, despite the serious slog created by advertisements), as were the other ALTs. (a turn-based tactics game was declared a "best racing game"? What is going on? And cue reading.) I'd like to think DYK's target audience is expected to be at least mildly amenable to adventurousness. We can hope to tease the curious reader and shouldn't expect to throttle and take hostage everyone who so much as glances at the main page. @Moondragon21: I'm happy to help with this nomination. If you adopt the nomination, I will review it. Or I can adopt the nomination, so you can review it. Hydrangeans (she/her | talk | edits) 09:26, 27 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Hydrangeans: Thanks for the offer, I am fine for you to adopt it and I can review it :) Moondragon21 (talk) 17:27, 27 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Moondragon21: Then consider it adopted, and you may review. If further revisions are necessary, let me know. Hydrangeans (she/her | talk | edits) 19:04, 27 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Hydrangeans: thanks. Moondragon21 (talk) 19:06, 27 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Hydrangeans and Moondragon21: Please note that the nomination will be two months old tomorrow and thus would fall under WP:DYKTIMEOUT, so if there are still any remaining issues, please address them as soon as possible. Having said that, Launchballer hasn't responded to the above comment regarding ALT0, so until that is resolved then the nomination cannot be approved anyway. - Didn't realise it required my attention. ALT0 is better, though would be snappier if "Circus Maximus" was hidden under "a 1979 board game". I wouldn't object to it if it was approved.--Launchballer 01:39, 31 January 2025 (UTC)
- I'm just pretty confused because Moondragon21 said they would review the nomination, so I adopted it. I could approve it as a reviewer this second—I read every single source—but I assume someone else would need to adopt the nomination to take responsibility for anything unforeseen coming up. I dunno. I agree with Launchballer that simplifying ALT0 to "a 1979 board game" would be better. If this times out, so be it. Hydrangeans (she/her | talk | edits) 02:07, 31 January 2025 (UTC)
- I am confused too. I would support somebody else reviewing the new hook. User talk:Launchballer.Moondragon21 (talk) 03:36, 31 January 2025 (UTC)
