gold medal
[edit]He does not have an entry on the IOC database. According to the research project Olympedia.org he was not a gold medalist. Additionally, the IIHF does not recognize him as a medalist in their guide and record book. A team player that does not participate traditionally did not receive a medal, but there are exceptions so it is possible. However, seeing as the IOC and IIHF do not support the assertion there would need to be something rather persuasive and definitive.18abruce (talk) 00:59, 2 March 2025 (UTC)

check out the guy behind fetisov (the captain with a K on his jersey, 3rd kneeling from the left) when you mouse over him you do not get his name, but that is Belosheikin and look ... he has a MEDAL around his neck
I am posting you this to show that, regardless of sources are errors, he actually got a MEDAL!
I'm not making this up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.198.189.134 (talk) 01:44, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
- So, your word is reliable? That's not how it works here on Wikipedia. You need to provide a reliable source. The source you provided above says it got its source from a Russian website who has deprecated the 1988 championship team. Therefore, as it stands, Belosheikin is not a gold medalist. well i am trying, you see the official report of the calgary 88 olympics says Belosheikin was there as an athlete, a hockey player, and his team won the gold medal ... of this i do believe there is no dispute what so ever. the question is ... did he get a medal, and he did, look at the picture, he has one around his neck (the only other person that could be is igor kravchuk, who was not dressed for the final game against finland, and it is obvious from his face that is not kravchuk ... oh, and Alexander Kozhevnikov didn't dress for finland either, but he is clearly identified in the picture, with his medal, so it just leaves the two players i mentioned) so i am just trying to demomstrate good faith by showing he ACTUALLY GOT A MEDAL ... now a big problem is the olympic records, and lets face facts, their record keeping and web site is FAR from perfect. many games organizing committees just gave out medals as they saw fit, the list of screw ups is amazing (3 very good examples ... steve janazek didn't play a second in 80 for the usa but got a medal, ingmar johanssen simply had his boxing medal taken away, until it was returned decades later, just who has the usa basketball team silver medals from 1972? they were in the munich basement of an old official at the event, and Nikolai Khabibulin had is medal stolen by team officials until returned ... i could go on.)
so, to be honest, everything points to him being a medalist ... except screwed up IOC record keeping. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.198.189.134 (talk) 05:29, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
- Again, not how Wikipedia works, we need verifiable information. Original research is what you're doing. You are probably right, but we need a document/source stating something like "Belosheikin was a gold medalist" or "on the 1988 Soviet team". Saying that is him in the photo does not help. Conyo14 (talk) 05:43, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
- I honestly would accept a Russian website, but others would have to agree. Conyo14 (talk) 05:48, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
what, is seeing not believing? i guess i just don't get how this place works, certainly not like my grad school thesis. it is not original research, it is what they like to say in the legal profession, i am uncovering existing law, not making new law. oh, and he is on the 1988 olympic team, it is right there in black and white on page 642 of the official olympic report, and it is cited in the article ... several stats sites list him as a gold medalist ... its just the IOC site doesn't, but then again it doesn't have him as a participant of the 88 games, but the official report ... and the picture ... clearly have him there
so, who to trust ... wikipedia is all about credential-ism, but what about when the approved source so clearly gets it wrong? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.198.189.134 (talk) 06:08, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
- and if you need more proof i can point you to a brief finnish documentary on youtube about their silver medal in hockey in 88, and it shows the medal ceremony and you can count them, 23 russians are lined up to receive medals and that has to include Belosheikin, no if ands or buts, i know this isn't official, but if you believe your eyes you will know i am telling the truth 206.198.189.134 (talk) 07:39, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
- Again, I'm not saying you're wrong, but like how am I to determine that is indeed Belosheikin, aside from "look at the picture"? I believe you, but others might not. For now leave as is. At least until we get a better source, the official one doesn't work. I'll try to find something too. Conyo14 (talk) 08:59, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
