Notability

[edit]

Continuing the discussion generated here: [1] at the Teahouse regarding notability for this article. The Rules section has been reduced: [2] by Mrfoogles. A discussion regarding past "winners" and keeping the extensive lists of over 80 plus names vs simply providing an External Link to the lists with an inline mention of "previous winners ..." should gain consensus to remove present lists from the article. Placing Notability tag, More Citations Needed tag for other editors to help search for reliable sources; rather than opt for an article merge University of Mississippi at the David H. Nutt Auditorium. Unfortunately, since this contest has moved numerous times over its history; merging might not be an option. Regardless, more reliable sources are needed outside of content generated by the creating editor AAPRMand primary sources from the article subject. As was pointed out, statements made in the History section alone need more RS. Keep in mind, this article is not a promotional page for the event. Presently, the Divisions sections read like an audition category requirement for the contest itself rather than an encyclopedia. Maineartists (talk) 20:24, 23 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Divisions

[edit]

The Divisions section that explains details pertaining to contest requirements, elements of judging, dates, explanation of procedure, etc are strictly associated with the contest and not encyclopedic content. Not to mention that the lists are WP:UNDUE weight in comparison to the rest of the article. The topic and subject of the article does not warrant detailed explanations of the contest, its requirements or procedural expectations; nor does it require a listing of every, non-notable winners that do not have articles at WP. For a contest that is not known outside of its locale, regional and subject matter, (and more importantly) the fact that the same names appear year after year, signify that this is a very obscure event known only to those that participate and not a "Championship" that merits a complete list of winners at WP. An External Link to the lists (for those interested) and an inline citation stating: "notable winners of the contest have been ..." is sufficient for a topic of this sort. Many of these names are listed three and fours times. The question then must be presented: why are these lists necessary at a WP article? As an editor, I cannot see any reason. The only notable person that has a link at WP is: Marty Sammon. The only sources for the notes are local press; which points more toward WP:OR. Without a proper reason, I see no reason to keep these extensive lists of winners. Maineartists (talk) 20:43, 23 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the detailed division rules listings -- I think that if the lists of winners are also removed, it should still be mentioned that Marty Sammon won, as he does have a Wikipedia article. Although, it seems a number of the entries are linked? Not just Marty Sammon? I'm not sure we should just immediately presume the others aren't notable. Mrfoogles Please take a more detailed look at the linked winners. Adam Swanson and Martin Spitznagel are mentioned 14 times in the list of winners and only have pages (created by the same editor that created this page) solely based on winning this contest; which certain editors have questioned its notability. Their "notability" is directly in question at this point based on the original discussion raised at the Teahouse. After this page is brought up to WP standards, I will be addressing those pages. At present, without this contest, they do not meet the criteria for notability. (Even with this contest, it is debatable). Thanks. Maineartists (talk) 14:10, 24 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at them, I do see your point. Personally, I would still link to their pages until they were deleted though. I think I'm about done with this article personally, though. Mrfoogles (talk) 17:11, 24 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

AAPRM You have uploaded an image to WikiCommons here: [3] stating "Own Work" and used it at this article page. Does this mean you created the logo yourself? Also, I have removed the image link to the David H. Nutt Auditorium. The image itself is of Musician 1st Class Dana Booher and Musician 1st Class Jonathan Yanik performing a recital and facilitate a masterclass for students at the Auditorium. This has nothing to do with this article page. That is why I removed it. Maineartists (talk) 20:33, 24 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
