Proposed restructure
[edit]Hi, I'd like to propose a couple of changes. First, switching from inline references to short footnotes leading to references because there are a couple of sources where multiple pages are referenced for different things. Second, restructure the article something like this:
- Lead
- Education
- Working life
- Educator
- Sculptor
- Designer: houses and theatre sets
- Organiser: founding and serving on various arts bodies
- Personal life
- Works
Any thoughts? Arnhemcr (talk) 04:30, 15 February 2025 (UTC)
- Hi there, This all sounds great. A much better arrangement and will make things a lot clearer. I was a bit cautious with this one as I did have Tom Taylor as a lecturer in stage one. He once told me I was to sculpture what fog was to shipping...so no real conflict there but it was one of the reasons I didn't use the Christchurch Art Gallery piece. Look forward to seeing the new structure in the flesh. Cheers, Manymanydogs (talk) 02:44, 16 February 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Manymanydogs, thanks for your positive feedback, sharing that rather cutting Taylorism and being open about the possible conflict of interest. The CAG piece is very positive about Taylor, but it does contain some details that I haven't seen anywhere else. I'll only consider using it where nothing else will do. Better get cracking... Best regards. Arnhemcr (talk) 03:32, 16 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Manymanydogs: Nearly there, just the Organiser section to go then summarise what follows in the lede. I'm a bit surprised at how little sculpture Taylor is known to have done after the mid-1970s. A year and further details of the Ngaio Marsh head would be handy. There's apparently a photo of Taylor with Climactic and St Ivo (1968) in The Star (Christchurch), which I'll try to view at the National Library on Monday. I couldn't find a source for the last two houses supposedly designed by Taylor, so I commented them out. Arnhemcr (talk) 07:53, 22 February 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, I've completed the restructure. Arnhemcr (talk) 09:36, 28 February 2025 (UTC)
