Name Change?

Why, exactly, doesn't this article go under the more concise name of "Tolkien and Modernism"? I haven't requested a move because I might well be missing some obvious rationale. Kymothoë (talk) 02:42, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for asking. "Modernism is a philosophical, religious, and arts movement ... which reflected the newly emerging industrial world, including features such as urbanization, architecture, new technologies, and war." (says the article on that topic). That is far wider than the subject of the current article, which concerns Tolkien's literary similarities with modernist authors, described as "the modernists" by scholars and critics such as Chance 2005: "Rosebury turns instead to the modernists to find aesthetic parallels. Even though Rosebury notes that Tolkien is younger than the modernist principals—for example, James Joyce..." and Freda 2014, whose book, cited in the article, is entitled Tolkien and the modernists: Literary Responses to the Dark New Days of the 20th Century (my emphasis).
