Proposed move
[edit]The title of this page should be changed to The Wilderness Society (US). This article conflict with an article already entitled "The Wilderness Society," an Australian conservation group. The Australian group is the only one that appears in search results. Both articles should appear when searching for "The Wilderness Society" ; Talk:The Wilderness Society -- U.S. — 204.5.3.2 19:33, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- Since The Wilderness Society (United States) was open I moved the article there. This is a better dab title with the country spelled out. I don't expect any objections. I also recommend that The Wilderness Society become a dab page. 04:58, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
Article Evaluation
[edit]I think this is a good article. All the information relates to The Wilderness Society in some way. The article gives a good amount of background knowledge to understand why the group was created and also what the group has accomplished and hopes to accomplish. A few notes, under the Achievements section talking about the conservation laws there's two that don't have any references and also no information about them. It's good to note these but I have no knowledge about these laws so it can leave a reader guessing what those bills were for. Under accomplishments there's very little references so a few might want to be added. This information seems up to date with information from 2016 being added which helps to see the group is still very active.

Membership numbers
[edit]Just wanted to share a note on membership numbers. There was a citation needed tag added by a previous editor. In researching this information, I found a document by the Bureau of Land Management published a little over a year ago showing that the organization had a total amount of members around 130,000. However, the website of the organization on the home page only a year later states they have over 1 million members. Both sources are self-reported as the BLM document has information about the organization that appears to have been sent in by the organization. How to compare these vastly different numbers? I am noticing that some organizations appear to be no longer offering memberships at a certain cost with the hopes that you also donate, but that they now only have the option to donate for a membership. I think organizations generally are moving to a membership model where any unique donation counts as a membership.
I checked two recent annual reports of the organization and did not readily see the membership numbers so this could be the case. If anyone does find a reliable source for this information regarding membership numbers, please include that information in the article. Adam MLIS (talk) 22:06, 2 July 2023 (UTC)

New Contributions
[edit]Our group is adding a new paragraph on the Wilderness Act, goals of the Wilderness Society, automobiles in nature, and current leadership of the Wilderness Society. There are also a few minor edits, such as adding in photos, citing missing sources, and updating Further Reading. MathStudent24 (talk) 14:14, 26 April 2024 (UTC)
- The Digital Team from The Wilderness Society themselves made updates to reflect current work, mission, and information across the entire page. This is current as of April 2025. User is Jonathanmeyers1 who represented The Wilderness Society. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jonathanmeyers1 (talk • contribs) 17:50, 9 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Jonathanmeyers1: joint and role accounts aren't allowed. Can you clarify your statement here? Horse Eye's Back (talk) 16:07, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
- The Wilderness Society wants to make sure the wikipedia site that is about them is accurate and up to date. The changes that were made were made by them evaluating the page and making updates. This seems like a logical state for the page. It's not a promotional page, but reflects current work. Reverting all these changes creates an out of date version of the organization itself---which is the subject of the page. Founders were left off, work is different, financials have been updated. Citations to this have been added. Continuously reverting to a page from 2017 is not useful. Jonathanmeyers1 (talk) 18:21, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
- So the edits of this page reflect a team of people not an individual? Horse Eye's Back (talk) 23:53, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, they are edits directly from The Wilderness Society Communication team. I am the Sr. Director for Digital for the organization. Jonathanmeyers1 (talk) 15:36, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
- In that case you are required to comply with WP:PAID. Please do so before editing again. As advised above, you should make requests for changes on this talk page (with sources backing them up), rather than implementing them yourself. - Ok, I (jonathanmeyers1) am a paid editor of this page who works for The Wilderness Society. Edits were made in that capacity to reflect the current work of the organization to provide the public with the most up to date information on the organizations work. Please feel free to evaluate the changes I made and restore them. Jonathanmeyers1 (talk) 14:45, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Jonathanmeyers1, there is information on how to submit a talk-page edit request for COI editors here: WP:EDITREQ. Please understand that there is often a backlog, so your requests may not be answered quickly.
- Also, if I understand you correctly, you mention that a team of WS editors have also worked on the article. Who are those editors (their WP user names) so that they can be added as connected contributors? They will also have to use the edit request system to update content. Thank you, Netherzone (talk) 01:31, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
- I was the only editor. Sorry for confusion. Thanks, Jonathan Jonathanmeyers1 (talk) 15:25, 18 April 2025 (UTC)

- I think they mean they (one person) are the sole editor of the article, making edits on behalf of the "Communication team" they speak of. As a sidenote, I'll be watching this article as extra eyes (technically I already have) to help. —Sparkle and Fade (talk • contributions) 23:01, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
