Fair use rationale for Image:GoBetween.jpg

[edit]

Image:GoBetween.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Question on date of UK premiere

[edit]

The article (and IMDb) give December 1970 for the UK premiere. However, the EMI (UK) version has the copyright date MCMLXXI (1971) in its opening credits. Also, this reference says that a royal premiere was held in Norwich in 1971. Are there any objections to changing the date to 1971? Cheers, Bjenks (talk) 10:35, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

One of the very most successful in the history of the competition

[edit]

Two things.

What does "very most successful" mean?

BAFTA is a big PR fest, but to call it a "competition" is cheap and ridiculous. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.44.40.176 (talk) 11:54, 8 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Belle Époque"

[edit]

The lead section includes the statement "Set during the Belle Époque, The Go-Between exposes the psychologically destructive effects of the rigid class conventions in Great Britain."

I amended this to "Mostly set around 1900, The Go-Between exposes ...", with the comment "Removed mention of Belle Époque, which is a term primarily applied to France and has no relevance to film or novel."

User:SovalValtos reverted my edit, with the comment, "Term appropriate Not just applied to France and has relevance to film".

I still think my change is correct. The term Belle Époque is rarely associated with a narrative set in Britain, and (to me, at least) conjures a definite image of France - see its WP article. I am unaware of any relevance to the film - a better description might be 'late Victorian', 'Edwardian', or 'turn of the 19th century' (which has its own problems with confusion about what this expression means). Neither the body of this article, nor the novel, nor the novel's WP article mentions Belle Époque, so the term stands in isolation in the lead, without explanation. And the statement is incorrect anyway, since the final section of the film is set around 1950. Comments? Masato.harada (talk) 11:19, 25 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
