Add connections to Thai water jars

[edit]

I think these are the same as Thai Klong/Khlong/Dragon jars eg as produced in Ratchaburi province in Thailand. It might be worth including info about Chinese immigrants in Thailand or a link to the article on Ratchaburi Brh418 (talk) 05:58, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The definition of "wabi-sabi"

[edit]

Under the heading "Trade: Rusun jars" the final sentence of the first paragraph states "They were prized for their simplicity and rough, often uneven design, epitomizing the traditional Japanese aesthetics of wabi-sabi ("perfection in imperfection)" (emphasis added). "Wabi-sabi" has nothing to do with "perfection" in any form. The literal translation of 侘び ("wabi") is "sober refinement", and of 寂び ("sabi") is "rustic surface" or "weathered"; together they are understood to mean "the dignity of something that is rustic or decaying". I would argue that replacing "perfection" with "dignity" is much closer to the accepted definition of "wabi-sabi".
