Hey, well done for this interesting and well-written article! I have reviewed it and made some changes and I have some comments/suggestions here:
1.) Is it possible to briefly explain or link "swimming upstream" and downstream? No worries if not :)
- Not really, it isn't a technical term. I could change to "swimming against the flow of the river" if you think that would make it clearer? Though it wouldn't be very concise.
2.) Lead - it is possible to clarify what "led for most of the race" and "broke away from the rest of the leading group" mean?
- Changed to "swam ahead of". I'm not sure how I could reword "led for most of the race" and it doesn't seem too technical.
3.) I think that "Rouwendaal" should be referred to as "van Rouwendaal", as that is the case for most articles I have seen (including her BLP and the sources that refer to e.g., e.g. Source #16)
- Yes you are correct, I'm so bad with names! A bunch of editors had to clean up after me when I kept referring to Chinese people by the wrong name. All instances of her name should be fixed now.
4.) Background - can you please clarify "defending" please?
Done
5.) Background - is it possible to link open water swimming?
Done
6.) Water quality issues - is it possible to please clarify if the E coli of the athletes and the cancelled sessions were caused by the flooding? In case readers think that these are unconnected
- I think the connection between the flooding, bacteria levels and cancelled sessions is sufficiently clear with "but heavy rain in the lead-up to the Olympics caused bacteria levels to increase" and "it was cancelled hours beforehand due to high enterococci levels". The E-coli infections could not have been caused by the river swimming, so it wouldn't be neutral to state a causal connection there in wikivoice.
7.) Water quality issues - could you potentially change the word "acclimatize"? I am not trying to be picky, I am just thinking that many readers may not know what it means
- Linked the term
8.) "A day after, on August 7, the acclimatization session went ahead" - Could you please clarify if this was the same session that was postponed the day before or if it was a separate one?
- Using "the acclimatization session" rather than "a acclimatization session" indicates this already
9.) Race - is it possible to clarify what "Johnson, Rouwendaal, Taddeucci, Cunha and Australia's Chelsea Gubecka broke away from the front of the lead group" and "during the upstream portion, Rouwendaal, Johnson and Taddeucci broke away from that group" means?
- Changed it to "swam ahead" and "swam away"
10.) I would recommend getting rid of the "Notes" section in the results table as there aren't any and thus it just empty space/not needed.
Done
11.) I am so sorry to say this but Source #7 should probably be removed per WP:METRO. We are currently having a discussion to allow its use for soap operas due to it being reliable for the genre but for a GA that is not a soap opera and not an opinion I think it should be removed. If you want to keep it and believe it is reliable I am open to hearing your faults.
- Good point. Thanks for noticing. I removed the source and adjusted the prose accordingly.
12.) This is not a criticism at all but I just wanted to let you know about MOS:CURLY - I have changed some (and hopefully all/most) of the curly apostrophes :) I just thought it would be helpful in case you did not know (I did not know about it until 5 years after I began editing!). I also changed Pont de l'Alma so it matches with the policy and its main page, hope that is okay
- Thanks for doing both! Normally they come from when I copy paste a direct quote.
13.) Source #9 says that the Familiarisation sessions were cancelled five times but the article says only once - is it because it was for different events?
- Yes this is referring to the familiarisation sessions for all the different events.
Spotchecked Sources #9, #11 #16 and #17. Also, Earwig shows no issues. I hope that my points above do not seem nitpicky and I hope I do not sound annoying at all, I am just to be helpful! Please let me know if you have any questions! DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 21:15, 12 May 2025 (UTC)
