[edit]hi i m tuqeer from london nice words about runner up thats good
Why ?
[edit]As I'm not a native speaker (of English) I came to this page to understand the meaning or more precise the historical basis of that expression. I already knew that it means "2nd place", but why "runner-up" ? Up what ? Somehow it doesn't make sense to me :-). Is there any explanation or historical context or is it just accepted as it is and no questions asked ? JB. --92.195.75.109 (talk) 14:56, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
