Old post
[edit]I changed the text from "The Royal Dublin Society was founded" to "The Dublin Society was founded". The prefix 'Royal' was added to the name almost a century later (1820) just as Dublin has had 'mayors' for centuries longer than it has had "lord mayors".
Capacity of the stadium
[edit]Does anybody know the capacity of the stadium? Wikipediarules2221 06:06, 12 November 2006 (UTC) Depending on the layout it can accomadate 20 - 35,000
Merge proposal
[edit]There is little point in having a two line description on the Simmonscourt arena separately from the main RDS article. ww2censor (talk) 02:13, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed. I think a merge/redirect is the way to go. Guliolopez (talk) 16:19, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
- Agree. Sarah777 (talk) 09:43, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
- I agree to merge the RDS Simmonscourt pavilion into Royal Dublin Society. Please mention that the show jumping horses are stabled in the Simmonscourt pavilion during Dublin Horse Show week. - Culnacréann-(talk) 19:35, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
- Agree. In addition to the reasons above, there are several other venues at the RDS which don't have separate entries. Vernacula (talk) 23:40, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks Guliolopez, now we just need to expand the article. ww2censor (talk) 04:28, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
- Agree. In addition to the reasons above, there are several other venues at the RDS which don't have separate entries. Vernacula (talk) 23:40, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
Merge/redirect completed per apparent consensus on 26 Jan. Guliolopez (talk) 15:02, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
Merge proposal (again)
[edit]See what amounts to a repeat of the above discussion here: Talk:RDS (stadium). Additional contributions requested to confirm a consensus (one way or the other). Guliolopez (talk) 16:25, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
- Still agree - or rather 'agree again'. Sarah777 (talk) 21:09, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
- Agree again: there is no need for a separate article as the "stadium" is an integral part of the RDS. remerge as soon as possible. ww2censor (talk) 01:31, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
RDS Politics?
[edit]According to George Noble Plunkett, the RDS threw Count Plunkett out of the society after his son, Joseph Mary Plunkett had been revealed as a leader of the Easter Rising. Is this true? Was this some sort of loyalist institution? Even today, are seats on the RDS governing body reserved for Protestant churches? Does anybody know who the dominant figures in the RDS were when Plunkett was thrown out? The politics of this organisation definitely has to be addressed in this article for the sake of getting a full picture. 109.78.46.207 (talk) 02:04, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
Abandoned user draft
[edit]User:Plavin/sandbox is an abandoned user draft expansion of this article. Please would an interested editor incorporate what is useful, then blank that page as WP:COPYARTICLE, and leave a note here when done? – Fayenatic London 11:10, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
