Still a Leeds United player

[edit]

He is currently still a Leeds United player. There are strong reports linking him to Barcelona and suggesting that a move to the Catalan club only needs to be formalised, but these reports emanate from non-reliable sources and the position is not officially confirmed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.100.193.244 (talk) 21:48, 25 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Raphinha (footballer, born 1996)RaphinhaWP:PRIMARYTOPIC -- Raphael Dias Belloli is way more famous than Raphael David Thomaz, the only two Raphinhas, and when someone searches up "Raphinha" on Wikipedia, it's almost exclusively to view this article. This topic on this article meets both of the criteria at WP:PTOPIC, and should therefore be moved to Raphinha. Paul Vaurie (talk) 13:51, 4 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Should we add "attacking midfielder" to his positions?

[edit]

Raphinha has been playing more as an attacking midfielder under Hansi Flick, so could we possibly add "or attacking midfielder" to the "plays as a winger" text and add attacking midfielder to his positions? Tkgaynor (talk) 10:47, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"Considered one of the best players in the world[...]"

[edit]

Cannot agree with this sentiment, yet: "Considered one of the best players in the world" [...]

While he's rapidly approaching that level - currently having an amazing season - "Considered one of the best players in the world", to me, brings to mind year-in-year out superstars that have been considered a top player for a long while. This is Raphinha's first season where he's playing at a truly world-class level. In other words, I don't think "Considered one of the best players in the world" should be a label someone gets unless they've previously been a realistic Ballon d'Or candidate/nominee. Nvielbig91 (talk) 13:11, 12 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The references, 4 and 5 have details about this analysis. To be honest with you, nearly every league 1/division1 etc player has that in the description these days. It's pretty meaningless, so I wouldn't worry to much about it. Knitsey (talk) 13:51, 12 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, understood. When I first saw that my initial reaction was: umm, Raphinha is not generally considered one of the best players in the world, yet. Anyway, have a good day! Nvielbig91 (talk) 15:43, 12 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
We usually get complaints the other way around lol. People complaining that 'their' player should be the best in the world (slight exaggerating there). Knitsey (talk) 15:58, 12 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm calling bullshit on this too. More specifically, I think this is a case of WP:RECENTISM. I think it's telling that of the sources cited to make this claim, all but one is from March 2025. My guess is that the "best in the world" shout is a knee-jerk reaction to his recent form and Barcelona's performance this season. I'm going to go ahead and remove the claim. Adeletron 3030 (talkedits) 17:24, 27 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I dont have a problem at all with removing it. It will just lead to lots and lots of IPs reinserting it and edit warring over it, and the article will eventually be indefinitely locked. Trust me, Ive dealt with a lot of such cases --FMSky (talk) 05:35, 28 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I understand. Your opinion may vary, but I don't think semi-protection for a heavily edited and viewed article is a bad thing. Adeletron 3030 (talkedits) 11:57, 28 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

What was considered "Unsourced commentary" about him playing as an inside left?

[edit]

He still plays on the left. He plays as AM behind Lewandowski in emergency situations but not primarily. I've watched most of Barca's matches this season and I've seen that he mostly operates close to Lewandowski as, again, a left interior with the license to roam. I wanted to discuss as opposed to changing it back because I'd rather not get another disruptive edit warning. Tkgaynor (talk) 18:37, 21 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It's commentary that's unsourced. You're welcome to add to the article but any new information you include needs to cite a source that meets WP:RS standards. If it's based on your observation, then it's original research. Adeletron 3030 (talkedits) 19:26, 21 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
