The editors of this page are not doing their jobs. They post a press release from MLB like it’s a news article. Are you kidding? Again, if you’d researched this, even if you entered it into A.I, the laziest research tool at your fingertips, you would read that the owners approved a move pending the construction of a ballpark. That is not the same as final approval or official name change approval. It takes more than one owner and a MLB press release to erase a team—-unless journalistic laziness at Wikipedia is the future of everything.
Wild Card out of position
[edit]In the infobox, why is Wild Card berths listed as "championships" and placed just after World Series victories? This accomplishment should be last, as it is correctly on other team pages. Yitz711 (talk) 19:56, 23 March 2025 (UTC)

Oakland A’s Code
The Oakland Athletics (often referred to as the Oakland A's) are an American professional baseball team currently playing in West Sacramento, California pending a potential move to Las Vegas. The Athletics played all Major League Baseball (MLB) home games in Oakland as a member club of the American League (AL) West Division between 1968 and 2024. 2600:387:8:7:0:0:0:3B (talk) 23:32, 6 May 2025 (UTC)
Not done: The Oakland Athletics played in Oakland. The Athletics (baseball) play in West Sacramento. – Muboshgu (talk) 00:15, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
- I’m a journalist, please fact check more closely. MLB has approved a move to Las Vegas should the A’s be able to build an MLB stadium there. Tariffs might now double the cost—-this is far from settled fact. According to MLB, they remain the Oakland Athletics. That is their official name. They are not allowed to be renamed with a city that has no MLB ballpark. So technically, they’re the Oakland Athletics playing as “The Athletics” in West Sacramento. My correction is more accurate than what the team wishes posted. 2603:8000:7D00:8D69:891A:4C13:C9B0:F377 (talk) 00:34, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
- Your WP:POV does not match WP:RS. They left Oakland. If they ever go back, we'll adapt. – Muboshgu (talk) 00:49, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
- Corporations decide reality on Wikipedia? Your facts are provably incorrect, you’re parroting the corporate PR, but I guess that doesn’t matter, right? 2603:8000:7D00:8D69:891A:4C13:C9B0:F377 (talk) 00:59, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
- Their approval to move to Las Vegas is conditional. They haven’t met the conditions. 2603:8000:7D00:8D69:891A:4C13:C9B0:F377 (talk) 01:02, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
- This article is about the Oakland Athletics. It is a historical article as the Oakland Athletics no longer exist as an entity, similar to the Philadelphia and Kansas City versions. The current franchise is listed as "Athletics" on MLB.com. The redirect to the current version of the franchise is linked at the top of the article, so any information about their current existence is both redundant and not related to the article.--Chimino (talk) 19:36, 7 May 2025 (UTC)

Relocation
[edit]Owners' vote approves A's relocation to Las Vegas for 2028 To the IP who continues to disrupt this page, there is nothin about the approval to move out of Oakland that is pending. – Muboshgu (talk) 00:23, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
- A press release from MlB isn’t the same as a news article. Do you understand the different between PR and news reporting. The article referenced approved a move pending the construction of a $2 billion stadium, if they can get it built. This is different that FINAL APPROVAL—ask MLB. Until there is final approval, there is no official name change. Meaning legally, even though the owners have approved a move, they remain legally the Oakland A’s. Do yourresearch. Stop being a puppet for the powers that be. 2600:387:8:9:0:0:0:74 (talk) 00:54, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
- That IS a news article. The Athletics have left Oakland. They're not going back. – Muboshgu (talk) 01:03, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
- It’s not a news article, it’s a press release from Major League Baseball. It’s not reporting, it’s an announcement styled like a news article. You can go on ChatGPT and confirm that the owners approved a move pending a stadium. The move can be revoked if the financing falls through. There will be no FINAL
- APPROVAL until a stadium is built. There will be no official MLB name change until final approval. What you quote is a first step, but everything depends on the stadium getting built—-and that’s not a done deal. They are legally the Oakland A’s until MLB issues final relocation approval and approves a name change. Hasn’t happened. You’re premature. 2600:387:8:9:0:0:0:74 (talk) 01:07, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
- Here, I had A.I. rewrite it up real nice and friendly for you: Actually, that’s not a news article—it’s an official press release from MLB announcing that the owners have approved a move pending stadium approval. This means it’s a formal announcement, but not the final or legally binding relocation approval.
- The move is conditional on financing and building a new stadium, and if that falls through, the relocation can be revoked. Until MLB grants final approval and the team’s name is officially changed, they remain legally the Oakland A’s.
- What you’re quoting is an important step, but it’s premature to say the Athletics have definitively left Oakland or that the move is irreversible. The stadium deal still has to happen for the relocation to be official. 2600:387:8:9:0:0:0:74 (talk) 01:11, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
- Dude, the discussion about splitting the article happened... you can find it on the Athletics article. If you want to reopen the discussion that is the place for it.. but you can't just decide on a different thing without getting consensus.. that is how wikipedia works. Spanneraol (talk) 02:08, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
- Point me to the discussion where any of you boys understand the difference between a non-binding vote to pursue stadium construction and a FINAL VOTE. I’ve worked as a news reporter and I have a journalism degree. While most of you blindly follow whatever the corporate press release tells you is reality. The A’s are trying to build a stadium in Vegas. If they can’t, they might have to return to Oakland. To outright them into past tense misses the complexity of everything happening. Stop acting like a bro and be a pro and get it right. 2600:387:8:9:0:0:0:74 (talk) 12:38, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
- Good lord, enough. The current articles at Oakland Athletics and Athletics (baseball) are well-cited to reliable sources, and reflect the reality of the current situation. Things may change in the future, and as they do, we can edit the articles accordingly. Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. 162 etc. (talk) 16:12, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
- The OP is correct. A non-binding resolution is different from final approval. The Oakland A’s won’t officially be history until there’s a legally binding final vote on the move. 2603:8001:E43F:14FE:3CEB:C16D:6353:3E9D (talk) 16:34, 7 June 2025 (UTC)

- The Athletics do not play in Las Vegas, hence there is no page at Las Vegas Athletics. But they don't play in Oakland either. Their lease at the Coliseum expired and they pulled up stakes. All of the discussion that transpired on this subject is at Talk:Athletics (baseball). You are unlikely to change the consensus that they are no longer an Oakland team. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:09, 12 June 2025 (UTC)
- The posters who say they are officially the Oakland A’s and playing as the Athletics for marketing purposes only are correct. The only city of Las Vegas, Sacramento and Oakland with an MLB stadium is Oakland. Until that changes, their legal name is the Oakland Athletics. Where they play is irrelevant. The Los Angeles Angels play in Anaheim, which isn’t even in Los Angeles county. 2603:8001:E43F:14FE:391F:5770:818:26B1 (talk) 20:18, 29 June 2025 (UTC)
- The legal name is The Athletics.. the team officially dropped Oakland from the name.. They do not have a lease with the Oakland stadium so could not go back there if they wanted to. Spanneraol (talk) 21:24, 29 June 2025 (UTC)
