The Nevada Department of Public Safety was authorized by the state legislature to rebrand itself—not actually change its name—they operate as the Nevada State Police. Either this should be merged into the actual department, or the Nevada State Police article to be about the division of the department, the Nevada Highway Patrol, which is part of the "Nevada State Police." I would hope that accuracy over branding would be the best route for an encyclopedia. And, if it helps, I'm a native Nevadan and I had no idea the nature of the relationship between the two until I looked up news articles. These articles aren't clear about much, so, that's not a good argument to not merge. TheYearbookTeacher (talk) 02:31, 26 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose the merger. This article is about the organisation of the whole government agency. If one is to merge the Nevada State Police, what happens with the article about the Nevada Capitol Police, does that get merged too? As I see it, these articles are about different and distinct branches or divisions of the central department. "Public Safety", as a brand, has a much wider meaning than "Police", so mixing the two has the potential to cause confusion. Merging the articles is likely to result in undue weight being placed on the information about the police organisation, rather than the department as a whole, or heavy editing of the information about the police. I think it is better these two related articles are kept separate. It is OK to have content forks sometimes. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 20:26, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
