Inappropriate creation of, and linking to, a dab page
[edit]The creator of this page (German IP) has made the following (hidden) statements:
I created this draft after coming across the (unknown to me) term "nacelle" in a motorcyle article, and after a Wikipedia search revealed that this term occurs in a multitude of motorcycle articles (roughly 50), but always unexplained and unlinked. This disambiguation page will at least provide a link target for such articles, until a general article for the term or a specialized article (or article section) is written. (All usages listed below are specialized articles for distinct meanings of the term and not really helpful for the motorcycle/motorvehicle sense of the term.)
This editor clearly has limited experience, and has inappropriately linked to this dab page in multiple motorcycle articles, despite the caveat contained within the last sentence in parentheses; I believe this is known on-Wiki as self-referencing and is not advised.
I will now have to go through reverting any inappropriate links.--82.13.47.210 (talk) 22:38, 4 March 2025 (UTC)

Historic use of Nacelle in motorcycle terminology
[edit]
The sculptured panel around the headlamp containing gauges and switches is known as a nacelle; similarly, can be called binnacle or instrument binnacle. In essence, it's an early type of streamlining (motorcycle fairing) and, as can be seen from the second image, there was a complementary lower panel.

Wikipedia shoots itself in the foot, as without the infamous reliable source, those editors undertaking wiki-policing will not allow any such content to be added to mainspace. Already, enough passing-mention content exists in various wiki-articles, so that it has to be accepted as correct usage under assumption of good faith.
I am a specialist editor in classic motorcycles and motorcycle racing but I don't anticipate being able to easily find any such published content/suitable sources. I'll add it to my list of things to do.--82.13.47.210 (talk) 22:38, 4 March 2025 (UTC)
