Hi @Arconning, comments are below. Some of my points I explained quite technically, I hope you don't mind that! IAWW (talk) 21:10, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Prose (Criteria 1a, 1b, 4) Magenta clockclock

[edit]

Lead

[edit]

It was founded c. 1991, and became a full member of the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Movement on February 9, 2006: Cut comma (WP:CINS) IAWW (talk) 21:08, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The MINOC initially applied for recognition in 1991 but were rejected in 1993 after a series of assessments were conducted and was deemed not ready for membership: Missing an "it" IAWW (talk) 21:08, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

History

[edit]

The Marshall Islands National Olympic Committee (MINOC) was founded in or before 1991: I believe including this is WP:SYNTH. Maybe just leave an invisible note that you couldn't find a source for when it was founded. IAWW (talk) 21:08, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

the IOC member to Samoa: What is an "IOC member"? IAWW (talk) 21:08, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

They were initially rejected the same year after the IOC determined they were ineligible[,] as citizens of the Marshall Islands hold dual citizenship with the United States, meaning the United States could send a second team to the Olympic Games: Add suggested comma to separate the clauses. Also, could this sentence be broken up or use more grammatical variation to make it more readable? IAWW (talk) 21:08, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The statement was deemed unusual at the time: By whom? IAWW (talk) 21:08, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The statement was deemed unusual at the time, as other competing: Add a comma to separate the explanatory clause from the main clause. IAWW (talk) 21:08, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The acronym "NOC" is not defined. Also, it should be made clear that being classed as an "NOC" means they are officially recognised by the IOC. IAWW (talk) 21:08, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

have citizens that hold United States citizenship: Make it clear that you are referring to all their citizens, so it is a comparable case to the Marshall Islands. IAWW (talk) 21:08, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

yet competed as separate entities: Maybe change to "yet were recognised by the IOC as separate entities". Using the same terminology as earlier in the paragraph makes it clearer that it is referring to the same thing. Also, I think it should be "compete", not "competed" to maintain the historical present tense you are using here. IAWW (talk) 21:08, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The Marshall Islands became the 203rd IOC member: Shouldn't it technically be the MINOC that became a member? IAWW (talk) 21:08, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Suggest linking "Oceanian" IAWW (talk) 21:08, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

At the time, the MINOC had the affiliations of the international governing bodies of...: Did they have the affiliations before recognition by the IOC, or as a result of their recognition? If the former, I suggest adding "already" to make "the MINOC already had" IAWW (talk) 21:08, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

After recognition, they received financial assistance and scholarships before the 2008 Summer Games from the IOC amounting around $100,000: There is a double modifier ("before the 2008 Summer Games" and "from the IOC") after the object ("assistance and scholarships"). This makes it unclear what modifiers refer to what. It can be momentarily misread as if the second modifier is tied to the first modifier, rather than the object it is meant to refer to. This can be fixed by rearranging the sentence: "they received financial assistance and scholarships from the IOC amounting to around $100,000 before the 2008 Summer Games." This makes it clear. IAWW (talk) 21:08, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

the same amount as their initial budget: Their budget before the grant or after the grant? IAWW (talk) 21:08, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Facilities and management

[edit]

The nation were said to have running tracks made of grass and four to five gyms with indoor basketball courts in 2008 by then-MINOC secretary general Terry Sasser: The context of what he said comes after what he said, which means the reader reads the first half of the sentence without the context, which means it will be harder to understand for the reader. IAWW (talk) 21:08, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The first known president of the MINOC was Kenneth Kramer: SYNTH, cut but add invisible comment I think. IAWW (talk) 21:08, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Olympic Games

[edit]

The delegation featured five athletes who lived in different nations: Different islands not "nations" right? IAWW (talk) 21:08, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@It is a wonderful world Nope, nations. Arconning (talk) 01:49, 15 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Suggest linking "at the 2008 Summer Games" to "Marshall Islands at the 2008 Summer Olympics", and doing the same for the other Olympics. I think they can replace the links to the overall games pages. IAWW (talk) 21:08, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Suggest linking "athletics" to "Athletics at the 2008 Summer Olympics", and doing to the same to swimming, taekwondo, and athletics at the next Olympics and so on. IAWW (talk) 21:08, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

coming from wrestlers Ilania Keju and Alexander Adiniwin placing sixth: At what games? IAWW (talk) 21:08, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Earwig finds nothing, and all the sourcing is online, it is very unlikely it has missed anything.

Tags (Criterion 6a) Magenta clockclock

[edit]

The NOC logo needs better image tagging:

  • The US tag should specify why it is in the public domain. If it is because of publication before 1930, then the date and location of its original publication should be given.
  • The image also needs a tag explaining why it is in the public domain in the Marshall Islands, assuming it was originally published there. IAWW (talk) 16:04, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
