Donetsk and Luhansk
[edit]Since most Wikipedia sovereign states lists include the two Russian-recoginzed 'other states', this list should also include Donetsk and Luhansk. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.197.134.44 (talk) 21:42, 28 April 2022 (UTC)
Donetsk and Luhansk should be removed from the list, as they are no longer partially recognized states nor do they make any claims to sovereignty following Russia’s annexation of them on 30 September 2022. Additionally, they are now included on the list of historical unrecognized states and are not present on the list of current unrecognized states. Pixelranium (talk) 05:27, 31 October 2022 (UTC)

Chart writing not visible on mobile when in dark mode
[edit]Not sure to fix this, as I'm new to editing Wikipedia but when trying to read the information in the charts on my phone,I had to switch it to darlmode to read anything that wasn't a link. The charts appear white and the writing also appears white. when in light mode, the chart stays white but the writing switches to black, making it readable. Any way to make the chart backgrounds change with the theme? Willski2002 (talk) 00:24, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Willski2002: What dark mode are you using? On my dark mode, which uses the built-in en.wiki gadget, the chart is black and the text is white. The built-in one does mess up colours, but should work for basic wikitables. CMD (talk) 03:07, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
Why isn't Trinidad and Tobago a part of South America?
[edit]Why is Trinidad and Tobago classified as a North American country? This doesn't make sense. This island country is located on the South American continental shelf. The island of Trinidad is only 11 kilometres (6.8 miles) from the South American coast, and visible across the Gulf of Paria on a clear day. A good open-water swimmer can actually swim from Trinidad to mainland South America.
I noticed that most island countries have been grouped into continents by proximity, for example, Indonesia, Japan, and the Philippines are considered parts of Asia, the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom are considered parts of Europe, and Madagascar is considered a part of Africa. By the same logic, shouldn't Trinidad and Tobago be considered a part of South America? 14.203.165.238 (talk) 06:11, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
- Continents are not based on logic, they are cultural conventions. CMD (talk) 07:01, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
Turkey appears in two lists (Asia and Europe)
[edit]So by that logic shouldn't Spain appear in the Africa list as well? As Spain has Ceuta, Melilla, the Canary Islands and the Plazas de soberanía? Which are the criteria? 12qwas (talk) 18:10, 3 July 2025 (UTC)
- You're absolutely correct. The article treats transcontinental countries inconsistently depending on what continent it is with which such country has limited association. Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan — even Armenia and Cyprus, which are geographically located solely within Asia — are listed as European countries (as well as within Asia, where they belong), and Egypt and Russia are listed as Asian countries (as well as within Africa and Europe, respectively), but Spain and Yemen aren't listed as African (despite Spain's Ceuta, Melilla, Canary Islands, etc. being geographically African, and Yemen's Socotra being geographically Africa), and Indonesia, the United States, Japan, Chile and Ecuador aren't listed as Oceanian (despite the existence of West New Guinea, Hawaii, the Bonin Islands, Easter Island and the Galapagos, respectively). Given that there is information regarding transcontinental countries at the end of each continent's section, I think that the best approach would be to remove countries from the main continental listing when it isn't the continent in which they are located under the UN geo-scheme (so listing Russia only in Europe, Egypt only in Africa, Turkey only in Asia, the United States only in North America, etc.) and thus avoid controversies and inconsistencies.
