Japan is missing from the chart

[edit]

Where is Japan? Surakmath (talk) 18:35, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly, and South Korea!? Having just returned from Japan, I would guess the percentage is close to zero. Anyone I met with at least basic skills eventually turned out to be not Japanese but from different South/East Asian origin (with exactly 1 exception, who coincidentally was also fluent in my mother tongue, big surprise) - not counting hotel staff where it's mandatory. Keeping my hopes up for South Korea, which is next on the bucket list. So I wonder why those are missing, while even the most obscure Middle East countries are included? Exactly, and Taiwan!? Jidanni (talk) 06:15, 3 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

ENGLISH IN KENYA

[edit]

According to Birmingham.gov.uk the population in Kenya that speak English Fluently is 73% , 3% Cannot speak English at all, While the Rest 24% Can only speak basic English. Citation [1] According to EF EPI ranking , Kenya is 2nd In Africa and 19th in the World based on English proficiency Index , [2] So the data in this Table is Outdated actually its as Of 2003, When Kenya population was around 30M.

Can someone Update that, 73% is 37.96 M Anyrmson (talk) 13:07, 6 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The source is about Kenyans in Birmingham, not Kenyans. Serendipodous 12:24, 7 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The EF EPI ranking is based on those who take the test, not the general population.

[edit]

Please note that EF does not produce statistically relevant figures. They put their test on the internet and later publish a summary. This means that the sample is of those people who chose to take the test, not of the whole population. EF's figures cannot therefore be used for this article. China Percentage

[edit]

The percentage shown on the page is 0.9% with a source from 2004. Estimates from other sources are 15-30% (https://www.researchgate.net/publication/236986651_The_statistics_of_English_in_China), more than an of magnitude off. RandomKami (talk) 22:35, 9 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
