This page should have a wikilink to India, like in the Census of India page. Oh no no no no no (talk) 10:34, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
Not done - WP:OVERLINKING says we should not link major countries - and most people would agree that India is a major country - Arjayay (talk) 11:37, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
- Per what you linked: "The purpose of linking is to clarify and to provide reasonable navigation opportunities", hence why such links exist in the lead on similar pages despite being major countries like List of United States cities by population, List of cities in Brazil by population, List of cities in Germany by population, and in fact in searching these examples I cannot find a single article where this is not done because this is such an obvious navigability desire.
- Given that this page is the top result for googling 'Indian cities by population', proceeding in to the India page is very reasonable and this page is unusual in not linking to the topic country. Oh no no no no no (talk) 03:02, 6 November 2023 (UTC)

- Name Corrections
- Kalyan-Dombivli (ranking at 28) done
- Ambarnath (ranking at 181) done
- Odisha (ranking at 253) not done. According to Sambalpur, Odisha is the state, not the city
- Hubli–Dharwad (ranking at 50) done
- According to Census names
- Bhiwandi-Nizampur (ranking at 65) not done. Our article is called Bhiwandi and the link Bhiwandi-Nizampur does not lead to the city.
- Nanded-Waghala (ranking at 82) not done, same reason as for Bhiwandi.

- Thanks a lot for correcting most of the data, @Lova Falk:,
- 1) Odisha (ranking at 253) not done.
- For this I am saying to change the state name only not city name, so please change it.
- 2) Satara 120,195 (ranking at 137) done- but can you please check the data for 2001 as well, because it seems very strange that Satara would have had a population of 228,175 in 2001.
- For this I check that reference it's 108,048 in 2001, so please correct it. 103.185.174.156 (talk) 05:31, 10 April 2025 (UTC)
