Where are the PPP numbers sourced from?

I'm having trouble backtracking where the net PPP numbers come from in the sources, but given the second source listed ( https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/databrowser/view/ilc_di03__custom_13839889/default/table?lang=en ), they seem off. For example, the listed monthly net, PPP adjusted average wage for Croatia and Slovenia are 3,036 and 2,825, respectively. In the source Eurostat source, their median equivalized net incomes are 13,438 and 20,273. This is not exactly impossible but seems unlikely. Flaws and Inconsistencies in Wage Data Comparison and Methodology

The way statistical methods are being applied in this comparison of wages raises several concerns. First, much of the data is outdated, which makes the maps and visualizations misleading for the average reader. Using such data distorts the current reality and can give a false impression of wage levels in different countries. To make matters worse, while some countries have up-to-date data, others do not, despite the fact that more recent data is readily available. Additionally, the data is sometimes collected at varying intervals—quarterly for some countries, monthly for others—further complicating any meaningful comparison.

For a more accurate and consistent analysis, it would make far more sense to rely on data from a trusted source that adheres to a uniform methodology across European countries, like Eurostat. Such a source would use the same reference points and ensure a clearer understanding of wages across regions.

Another glaring issue is the inconsistent approach to currency conversion. The method being used to convert wages is problematic, particularly when looking at future wages. For example, using the exchange rate from November 2024 would be more logical than continuously adjusting it based on fluctuating daily rates. This inconsistency makes the data even less reliable.

Let’s take Poland as an example. The wage data for Poland is fluctuating based on the exchange rate and currently shows an average net wage of €1507, which is misleading. Even if we apply the common exchange rate of 4.21, the value is still incorrect. Moreover, the data includes December’s wages, which is problematic since additional bonuses or "13th month" payments are often included in December data, skewing the real wage figures. When we refer to Eurostat, a more reliable and scientifically grounded source, we find that Poland’s wage in 2023 was lower than those of countries like Lithuania and the Czech Republic, which seems more plausible than the one-year wage jump suggested by the current map.

On the other hand, countries like Belgium, which provide updated data, are left out of the analysis, and their 2022 wage data is not reflected at all. According to Statbel, Belgium's net wage was around €2663 in 2022, but this figure is not being updated or represented in the current mapping.

Overall, the methodology and data used in this wage comparison are flawed and biased. The inconsistent data sources, lack of uniformity in reporting, and erroneous currency conversions make the conclusions unreliable and not scientifically based.  Not done: I agree that data from certain countries should be updated more frequently to reflect latest available data but such task is solely in the responsibility of editors since finding newest data from reliable sources in different language is not easy. I try to update my counties information as soon as possible and request the same from others.

Your point about using the data from one single source seems like striking the Achilles heel but using Eurostat for countries outside of the EU is not possible (or I haven't found such subset of data) and thus more data incompatibilities would occur. Two options arise: completely redo this website and change it to represent wages only of countries in the European Union or create such page. In terms of exchange rates and your perceived inconsistencies when converting to euro, I believe that using the topical conversion relevant to the period of the referenced wage is the most consistent since information about other wages are not from the same era. Nonetheless, updating the exchange rate regardless of change in the value to reflect the value while editing different data is not valuable and a consensus decision about the source of exchange rates should be discussed.

Furthermore, your example of Poland is only leveraging the need to update data continuously. As someone from the area, the steeper rise of Poland wages is partially caused by the present historical rise of the minimum wage and also attributed by the adjacent overall economic boom. Both the minimum and the average wage in Poland is now higher than in the Czech Republic. The important note here is again the issue of scattered information across time. The Czech republic publishes the quarterly results about average wages two months after the end of the perceived period in contrast to Poland which publishes its data much sooner.
