[edit]
An image used in this article, File:Layton Williams (Billy).jpeg, has been nominated for speedy deletion at Wikimedia Commons for the following reason: Copyright violations
What should I do?

Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Commons Undeletion Request

"Billionaire"

[edit]

Who on earth wrote that he is a billionaire? His estimated net worth is about £5 million. 2.98.183.194 (talk) 22:34, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nationality

[edit]

Should Layton be described as "British" or "English"? (or other or neither?) This article first used "English", but recent edits wish for "British" to be used instead.

Note under MOS:NATIONALITY and expanded in WP:UKNATIONALS, there is no preference to use "British" over "English". If changed, it should have some specific reasoning relating to Williams, there is no site-wide default nor is "English" invalid. Do more sources describe him as "English" or "British", or does he have a self-preference of a specific identity? DankJae 21:02, 3 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Well, you should check out the articles of UK politicians, they all use the word "British" probably to refer to their respective nationalities, all of them, even an Englishman, Welshman or Scottish. They've cited it numerous times in online newspapers in English and Spanish. 64.32.111.172 (talk) 03:20, 4 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
How does that relate to Williams? Is he a politician?
Not all of them do, none from the nation-specific parties, almost no politicans to the devolved parliaments use it. Most politicians to the British parliament are more likely to use "British" as an English parliament does not exist for an English identity so politicians are more likely to associate with UK politics, but not all HoC politicians follow it. But in cultural contexts, "English" is a thing still, so Williams can equally be called that too, unless sources specifically don't.
Once again, not opposed to Williams using British if evidence shows it, but oppose the POV that "all of them are British (by default)". DankJae 20:26, 4 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@MapReader, that publication is indecisive, while the cite you added says "British", the same publication says "English" here, as do these others [1][2][3].
But once again, is there a source discussing citizenship or does Williams have a preference? Fully fine if a source states he prefers British. DankJae 20:34, 4 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'd go with English. From a skim read of the article they were born in England and don't appear from what I've read to have lived in or have any connection to any other UK nation. The categories for them have also been specified for English. Helper201 (talk) 14:13, 6 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
