Taking this for later. Currently working on another GAN review right now so it might take me a second to get to this Locust member (talk) 15:09, 22 March 2025 (UTC)
- I was gonna say damn i just finished working on it lmao. nah dw im doing other article and review work also so im equally busy // Chchcheckit (talk) 15:28, 22 March 2025 (UTC)
- Also uhhh I have kinda struggled to find credits. Im probably gonna use apple music for credits since they r pretty thorough (physical liners only note the mixing, mastering, photo ppl) but how should i go abt presenting? like putting the line "Credits per Apple Music" and citing this?? idk Chchcheckit (talk) 15:37, 22 March 2025 (UTC)
- I think you should do:
- "Credits adapted from Apple Music and the liner notes of If Looks Could Kill." and include what both say
done // Chchcheckit (talk) 00:53, 23 March 2025 (UTC)
- also, before formally reviewing, could you add a background section to increase scope, and if possible, something about the album's development / recording process? Locust member (talk) 00:32, 23 March 2025 (UTC)
I did an "overview" instead of doing background sections because:1. I didn't think there was enough info with the sources to substantiate it; there's basically no info around recording as is.2. it seemed that the album's concept (aka; the look killa alter ego thing) was intertwined in the recording (per complex, lonely got into character to record the song that resulted in/"started" ILCK; the title track). thus, I employed a similar design to a previous GA I did in 2023, which has its "music, writing and recording" section (in turn inspired by this ga article... aaagh) albeit here i put the songs into their own section with commentary to distinguish from the alter ego business.Idk if this makes sense. Anyway I'll get to those credits ty // 00:45, 23 March 2025 (UTC) Chchcheckit (talk) 00:45, 23 March 2025 (UTC)Clarification/also: the overview describes the recording in the second paragraph, alongside its influences. Chchcheckit (talk) 00:53, 23 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Locust member I was overthinking it. Anyway, it's organized better. // Chchcheckit (talk) 12:57, 23 March 2025 (UTC)
- haha all good; it's looking better, I'm gonna start my formal review Locust member (talk) 17:26, 23 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Locust member done things Chchcheckit (talk) 23:16, 24 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Locust member done once more Chchcheckit (talk) 18:40, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- I just made some changes to lead. Lemme know if it looks good to you or if you want some things reverted. Locust member (talk) 19:21, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Locust member I did a minor thing but yeah looks good Chchcheckit (talk) 19:26, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- awesome, then I'll ✓ Pass this. Nice work and another fun review :)) Locust member (talk) 19:27, 30 March 2025 (UTC)

Lead and infobox
[edit]- gonna circle back to the lead later since I always read that last buttt I have some comments with the infobox
- The hip-hop genre is not confirmed by Pitchfork; it is included in the "genre" part of the page, but those are unreliable for two reasons: a. it can be considered a subheadline and b. it just is inaccurate most of the time. Take the time they called Frailty a rap album or how they consider every Lil Yachty release a rap and rock release (they dont do genres on album by album basis, more so the entire artist's discog)
- replaced with a single ref by hiphopdx whose review states that Destroy Lonely exists in a very specific realm within the Hip Hop world [...] If Looks Could Kill proves that the space in which he exists may become stagnant if it doesn’t begin to take the risks of its originator. // Chchcheckit (talk) 03:35, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
- Passes Locust member (talk) 01:56, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Locust member done everything but the broad for reasons stated below. done done done aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa // 03:06, 30 March 2025 (UTC) Chchcheckit (talk) 03:06, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- The trap genre is also not confirmed by AllMusic; it does not pass WP:EXPLICITGENRE. Thompson says the album "blends trap" with other sounds, but does not outright state the album is a trap album.
- i was going off the "Blends trap" quote as i am aware of the allmusic genre thing. removed // Chchcheckit (talk) 03:35, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
- Standard cover has proper fair use rationale and alt text
- I'm not sure about alternative covers because I've seen them even in featured work, but one of the alternative covers just got deleted from one of the articles I worked on so idrk. Considering there are so many and it's all in one, it looks good to me in this case.
Background and recording
[edit]- You can add in information about No Stylist and his rise to stardom and affiliation with Playboi Carti
I kinda didnt because the overlap between eras is very confusing. as in he released the no stylist deluxe in november 2022 like after album recorded. then went on the no stylist tour from nov 22 to march 23. it felt out of place/tacked on idk // Chchcheckit (talk) 23:55, 23 March 2025 (UTC)talked about no stylist // Chchcheckit (talk) 23:17, 24 March 2025 (UTC)
- Looks better! though, considering this is his debut album, we should introduce him as a musician more. we have to assume the reader has no idea who this guy is. you can add his affiliation with Carti and his signage to Opium from this source Locust member (talk) 23:35, 25 March 2025 (UTC)

Composition and lyrics
[edit]Well-written
his delivery and technique drew comparisons to Future, Lil Keed, Yeat, Young Thug, and Carti by reviewers.
- for clarity on who is making these comparisons and since Carti is mentioned in first section now he can just be referred to by his artist surname.- done // Chchcheckit (talk) 03:31, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
- add "the" in front of "Look Killa"; e.g.
known as the Look Killa
- ok done // Chchcheckit (talk) 03:31, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
- lowercase the "The" in the (holy shit) sentence quote of him saying he's the look killa. Don't think we need to adhere to capitalization of quotes when it is grammatically incorrect.
- for clarification in case someone looks at this in 10 years; inclusion of quote is not for the promo. mental logic is that it shows exactly what lonely is pitting/contrasting himself against as... The Look Killa. if that makes sense. either way: done // Chchcheckit (talk) 03:31, 29 March 2025 (UTC)

Songs
[edit]Well-written
- Lone can just be referred to as "Lonely" in first mention cause of MOS:SURNAME
- done // Chchcheckit (talk) 03:05, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- unfocussed - "unfocused"
- done // Chchcheckit (talk) 03:05, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
"Right Now" features gothic,[8] GarageBand-esque guitars and ambient synths.[1] Lonely brags about his jewelry on "Which Way",[12] and pridefully raps about his clothes and new home on "New New".
- reorder these sentences so it matches the way the track list appears- done // Chchcheckit (talk) 03:05, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
to Travis Scott's "Astrothunder"
- "Travis Scott's 2018 song "Astrothunder" "- done // Chchcheckit (talk) 03:05, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
"Brazy Girls" departs from the album's material with its "twinkling '80s-like synths".
- " "Brazy Girls" shifts from the album's other songs due to its 1980s-inspired synthesizers." just to lighten the usage of quotes- done // Chchcheckit (talk) 03:05, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
On the six-minute long "Safety (Interlude)"
- "On the six-minute long interlude, "Safety", " for the life of me i cannot find it but i swear ive seen before that you should not include stuff like "interlude", "outro", "intro", etc. in the actual song name. change this on the audio sample and track list too: "Safety" (Interlude)- done // Chchcheckit (talk) 03:05, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
Broad
- HipHopDX mentions Lone switching up his flow and cadence on "by the pound"
- add that he salutes Jamaicans on "wagwan" per Vibe
- didnt include "by the pound" to prevent repetition on point about flows in composition and didnt include "wagwan" as it feels jokes to say that // Chchcheckit (talk) 03:05, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- makes sense for "by the pound" but i mean the term wagwan is a Jamaican phrase, so I mean if you add like "On 'Wagwan', Lonely praises Jamaicans." or something like that I think it could be somewhat valuable to identify its lyrical content but if you dont think it fits then I won't really mind Locust member (talk) 18:04, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- I still kinda rest my case, because uhh lyrically he talks more about New York and Italy/Milan than Jamaica... so like, no respecfully // Chchcheckit (talk) 18:21, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
Release and promotion
[edit]Well-written
- again, can just be referred to as "Lonely" on first mention per WP:SURNAME

- "If Looks Could Kill" is already linked in the article
- done // Chchcheckit (talk) 18:38, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- The Fader calls ILCK the lead single so u can say "On March 3, 2023, "If Looks Could Kill" was released as the lead single from If Looks Could Kill." and include that source (or u can say the title track to avoid reptition idc0)
- done. alt press does the job // Chchcheckit (talk) 18:39, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- It charted at number 2 on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart - "It charted at number 2 on Billboard's Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart." to avoid MOS:SEAOFBLUE
- done // Chchcheckit (talk) 18:38, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- Destroy Lonely released an accompanying musical short film directed by James "JMP" Periera, Look Killa, on the same day as the album. - "Lonely released an accompanying short film directed by James "JMP" Pereira, titled Look Killa, on the same day as the album's release." JMP's last name originally spelt wrong; the short film itself is not a musical and removed to avoid sea of blue; and again, WP:SURNAME
- done // Chchcheckit (talk) 18:38, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- Assuming the role of the title character,[7] the film sees Lonely using his music to kill his victims - "Assuming the role of its titular character, the film depicts Lonely using his music to kill his victims..."

- which was also featured in Insidious: The Red Door (2023) - "which was featured in the 2023 film Insidious: The Red Door."; the also seems a bit out of place and to give context on what the red door is without having to click on wikilink

- add a comma after "That's My"
- done // Chchcheckit (talk) 18:38, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- replace "the rapper" with "him"; the current wording feels like editorializing
- done. my bad // Chchcheckit (talk) 18:38, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
References
- Unsure about Our Generation Music's reliability; however, it is reporting an uncontroversial statement and provides proof of him previewing songs on Tumblr in the article so I think its marginal use here is fine.
Critical reception
[edit]- This section looks good except for two things:
- Not seeing "Very Hottttt" anywhere in the HNHH source
- it's in the archive source. ill set it to dead. in other words, done done DONE // Chchcheckit (talk) 18:53, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- and to avoid using Fantano's review as a primary source, I think it's better off to just say "Anthony Fantano of The Needle Drop deemed it one of the worst albums of 2023." per LOBF. I would also remove him from the infobox in this section too.
- done // Chchcheckit (talk) 18:53, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Locust member im sorry i ping lmao Chchcheckit (talk) 18:56, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- hahaha ur good i love being pinged Locust member (talk) 19:09, 30 March 2025 (UTC)

Track Listing
[edit]- lowercase the "in" in "Came in Wit"

- (Interlude) should be outside of the quotations. (also said above)

- Make "ssor.t" and "prodbyblezzy" title case

Overall
[edit]- Commented on covers above
- Audi samples look good, conforms to WP:SAMPLE
- Recent changes are primarily made by Chchcheckit; Lil Sad Lil Happy has made some changes but they are minor and have been resolved
- Covers the main topics for an album article; uses most information available to provide an in-depth article
Spot-check from this revision
- [6] and [7]
In October, Lonely recorded the title track of If Looks Could Kill in New York, where he would spend a month and a half working on the album.
- [9] and [10]
If Looks Could Kill is a hip-hop album that features dark, atmospheric production that incorporates synths and guitars.
Lyrically, If Looks Could Kill explores Lonely's lifestyle, anxiety, drugs, money, women, fashion, and life choices.
- all refs here look good- [13]
