Taking this for later. Currently working on another GAN review right now so it might take me a second to get to this Locust member (talk) 15:09, 22 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I was gonna say damn i just finished working on it lmao. nah dw im doing other article and review work also so im equally busy // Chchcheckit (talk) 15:28, 22 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Also uhhh I have kinda struggled to find credits. Im probably gonna use apple music for credits since they r pretty thorough (physical liners only note the mixing, mastering, photo ppl) but how should i go abt presenting? like putting the line "Credits per Apple Music" and citing this?? idk Chchcheckit (talk) 15:37, 22 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think you should do:
"Credits adapted from Apple Music and the liner notes of If Looks Could Kill." and include what both say
checkY done // Chchcheckit (talk) 00:53, 23 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
also, before formally reviewing, could you add a background section to increase scope, and if possible, something about the album's development / recording process? Locust member (talk) 00:32, 23 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I did an "overview" instead of doing background sections because:
1. I didn't think there was enough info with the sources to substantiate it; there's basically no info around recording as is.
2. it seemed that the album's concept (aka; the look killa alter ego thing) was intertwined in the recording (per complex, lonely got into character to record the song that resulted in/"started" ILCK; the title track). thus, I employed a similar design to a previous GA I did in 2023, which has its "music, writing and recording" section (in turn inspired by this ga article... aaagh) albeit here i put the songs into their own section with commentary to distinguish from the alter ego business.
Idk if this makes sense. Anyway I'll get to those credits ty // 00:45, 23 March 2025 (UTC) Chchcheckit (talk) 00:45, 23 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Clarification/also: the overview describes the recording in the second paragraph, alongside its influences. Chchcheckit (talk) 00:53, 23 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Locust member I was overthinking it. Anyway, it's organized better. // Chchcheckit (talk) 12:57, 23 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
haha all good; it's looking better, I'm gonna start my formal review Locust member (talk) 17:26, 23 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Locust member done things Chchcheckit (talk) 23:16, 24 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Locust member done once more Chchcheckit (talk) 18:40, 30 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I just made some changes to lead. Lemme know if it looks good to you or if you want some things reverted. Locust member (talk) 19:21, 30 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Locust member I did a minor thing but yeah looks good Chchcheckit (talk) 19:26, 30 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Lead and infobox

[edit]
  • gonna circle back to the lead later since I always read that last buttt I have some comments with the infobox
  • The hip-hop genre is not confirmed by Pitchfork; it is included in the "genre" part of the page, but those are unreliable for two reasons: a. it can be considered a subheadline and b. it just is inaccurate most of the time. Take the time they called Frailty a rap album or how they consider every Lil Yachty release a rap and rock release (they dont do genres on album by album basis, more so the entire artist's discog)
    • replaced with a single ref by hiphopdx whose review states that Destroy Lonely exists in a very specific realm within the Hip Hop world [...] If Looks Could Kill proves that the space in which he exists may become stagnant if it doesn’t begin to take the risks of its originator. // Chchcheckit (talk) 03:35, 29 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    Passes Locust member (talk) 01:56, 30 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Locust member done everything but the broad for reasons stated below. done done done aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa // 03:06, 30 March 2025 (UTC) Chchcheckit (talk) 03:06, 30 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • The trap genre is also not confirmed by AllMusic; it does not pass WP:EXPLICITGENRE. Thompson says the album "blends trap" with other sounds, but does not outright state the album is a trap album.
  • Standard cover has proper fair use rationale and alt text
  • I'm not sure about alternative covers because I've seen them even in featured work, but one of the alternative covers just got deleted from one of the articles I worked on so idrk. Considering there are so many and it's all in one, it looks good to me in this case.

Background and recording

Composition and lyrics

[edit]

Well-written

  • his delivery and technique drew comparisons to Future, Lil Keed, Yeat, Young Thug, and Carti by reviewers. - for clarity on who is making these comparisons and since Carti is mentioned in first section now he can just be referred to by his artist surname.
  • add "the" in front of "Look Killa"; e.g. known as the Look Killa
  • lowercase the "The" in the (holy shit) sentence quote of him saying he's the look killa. Don't think we need to adhere to capitalization of quotes when it is grammatically incorrect.

as dumb as it sounds.

References

  • some WP:REPCITE issues in this section
    • fixed // 03:31, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
  • Refs here looking good

Songs

[edit]

Well-written

Broad

  • HipHopDX mentions Lone switching up his flow and cadence on "by the pound"
  • add that he salutes Jamaicans on "wagwan" per Vibe
makes sense for "by the pound" but i mean the term wagwan is a Jamaican phrase, so I mean if you add like "On 'Wagwan', Lonely praises Jamaicans." or something like that I think it could be somewhat valuable to identify its lyrical content but if you dont think it fits then I won't really mind Locust member (talk) 18:04, 30 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I still kinda rest my case, because uhh lyrically he talks more about New York and Italy/Milan than Jamaica... so like, no respecfully // Chchcheckit (talk) 18:21, 30 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Release and promotion

[edit]

Well-written

References

  • Unsure about Our Generation Music's reliability; however, it is reporting an uncontroversial statement and provides proof of him previewing songs on Tumblr in the article so I think its marginal use here is fine.

Critical reception

Track Listing

[edit]

Overall

[edit]
  • Commented on covers above
  • Audi samples look good, conforms to WP:SAMPLE
  • Recent changes are primarily made by Chchcheckit; Lil Sad Lil Happy has made some changes but they are minor and have been resolved
  • Covers the main topics for an album article; uses most information available to provide an in-depth article

Spot-check from this revision

  • [6] and [7] In October, Lonely recorded the title track of If Looks Could Kill in New York, where he would spend a month and a half working on the album.
  • [9] and [10] If Looks Could Kill is a hip-hop album that features dark, atmospheric production that incorporates synths and guitars.
  • Lyrically, If Looks Could Kill explores Lonely's lifestyle, anxiety, drugs, money, women, fashion, and life choices. - all refs here look good
  • [13]Tony Centeno of Power 100.9 compared his attire to the antagonist of the 1997 slasher film I Know What You Did Last Summer.
  • [16] An early, leaked version of the song garnered over 200,000 streams and 75 million views on TikTok prior to its official release.
