Infobox
[edit]The infobox is confusing HMSG/Hyundai Motorsport Gmbh with the WRC history of Hyundai. --Rally Wonk (talk) 15:44, 25 January 2022 (UTC)
Scope
[edit]What is the scope of this article?
- The topic of Hyundai in motorsport as intended when the article was created in 2011.
- The company Hyundai Motorsport GmbH, established 2012, as asserted in the opening sentence.
- The rallying team representing Hyundai as in the short description.
- Other?
Difficult to be able to contribute to it and it's potentially misinforming people in its current state. Rally Wonk (talk) 16:25, 18 September 2022 (UTC)
- Compare how many articles exist for Toyota, such as Toyota Gazoo Racing, Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe, Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT. Rally Wonk (talk) 16:38, 18 September 2022 (UTC)
- I can't find any evidence to say there was a Hyundai Motorsport 'division' pre-2012, even Hyundai.com say: "On 19th December 2012, we established our motorsport division - Hyundai Motorsport GmbH". A search on newspapers.com and google only really mentions a Canadian team that did some circuit racing about 1999 which is not mentioned here.
- I propose to split the content of this article to:
- Hyundai World Rally Team (name since 2000 where much of the Infobox and WRC season reports belong)
- Motor Sport Developments (independent company involved in 1998-2003 Hyundai motorsport activity)
- Hyundai Motorsport {company) (this article) for the 2012-onwards GmbH company, with content based on the commercial operation.
- As it is contradicting content and not such a formal split (ie. size), I'll proceed unless anybody has any reasonable objection. No other manufacturer has a motorsport history essay so I assume this article isn't trying to be one. Rally Wonk (talk) 20:39, 2 October 2022 (UTC)
Merge proposal
[edit]At least six separate sources (1 2 3 4 5 6) from five different authors/publishers, including the ACO and Hyundai Motor Group, claim that "Genesis Magma Racing" is an extension (either partially or wholly) of Hyundai Motorsport. Therefore, the contents of Genesis Magma Racing should be merged into this article, with the GMR article becoming a redirect to this one. 2001:8003:268E:A800:8116:E82D:9DBA:C760 (talk) 10:42, 10 April 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose. Hyundai Motorsport is a legal entity while Genesis Magma Racing is a team, a promotional device for competition. This proposal could see Hyundai World Rally Team and Hyundai World Rally Championship results merged here also, which could be seen fair but once the article gets full of results tables and season reports it will become something too large and unreadable.
- See Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe where the WEC team results should be moved to its own page like Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT has. Rally Wonk (talk) 15:54, 10 April 2025 (UTC)
- Disagree. "Genesis Magma Racing is a promotional device for competition" falls foul of WP:PROMO, whilst there is no precedent for results merging - Red Bull Racing and Red Bull Racing Grand Prix results is an example of two articles tied to the same entity that remain separated due to size. 2001:8003:268E:A800:8116:E82D:9DBA:C760 (talk) 11:51, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
- What makes WP:PROMO applicable to Genesis but not Red Bull? Or any other of millions of branded articles? Currently, the article is objective and would remain so I imagine. Rally Wonk (talk) 12:28, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
- Genesis Magma Racing is a brand of Hyundai Motorsport; similar to how Walkinshaw Andretti United compete as "Mobil 1 Optus Racing" in Supercars Championship. Red Bull F1 is similar to WPS Racing where the brand, company and team are one and the same. 2001:8003:268E:A800:8116:E82D:9DBA:C760 (talk) 10:52, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
- WP:Promo says articles must not exist solely to promote otherwise non-notable topics. Not sure that's a point here now or that any other points are being made. Within a WEC context, Genesis will be the common, notable name. I doubt 'Hyundai' will be crashing the marketing. Rally Wonk (talk) 16:54, 14 April 2025 (UTC)

- Oppose Per @Rally Wonk, They are a separate entity from Hyundai. SimplyLouis27 (talk) 11:07, 16 April 2025 (UTC)
