Strange Message at Putin page

[edit]

People, there's a strange history, the following message has appeared in the Vladimir Putin page. As for me, it's some hysterical nonsense. But anyway I think you guys editing this article know better how to react on this msg. ellol 22:13, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[...]

This is a probably a paranoid lunatic who should seek psychological help instead of posting (aka spamming) his essays to many pages in Wikipedia, as well as to blog comments, web forums and so on. I have deleted the text, it is available in the editing history of way too many pages already. andy (talk) 22:08, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi all,

Going through to copyedit this article, I'll check tone/POV too. Anything else I should be aware of? KingLeonid1 (talk) 18:41, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your edits, and welcome to Wikipedia! You're doing great for a newcomer, though I have a few pointers:
  • The text originally began with "Human rights in Thailand", with a link in the bold text, a common mistake to be avoided according to MOS:BOLDLINKAVOID under Wikipedia's WP:Manual of Style. One way to address this would have been to remove the link to Thailand in the bold text. The other way, which you used, removing the bolded repetition of the article title entirely, is also okay in this case, since it's a descriptive title (though it's not as clear-cut here as in some other possible MOS:AVOIDBOLD cases). However, you neglected to remove the bold formatting for "Thailand".
  • You changed "The first election began in 1937" to "In 1937, the first election began." In both cases, the WP:piped link to the election article was not good, as it didn't make the link target clear to the reader. Per MOS:MORELINK, it would have been better to adjust the link text to "in 1937" or "the first election". I also changed "began" to "took place".
  • In the phrase "The 2016 constitution, drafted by a body appointed by the military junta (NCPO)..." you introduced a redundant link to the National Council for Peace and Order article. Since you're using the visual editor, you probably missed that the link at "military junta" was already piped to that target (an "easter egg link" to be avoided, per MOS:EGG). What should have been done here was to expand the link text to "National Council for Peace and Order" in full, as it's unreasonable to assume the reader would know what "military junta (NCPO)" refers to from reading the text alone. I changed it to "The 2017 constitution, drafted by a body appointed by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), the military junta that came to power by coup in 2014...", adding relevant context and also correcting the year and linking to the constitution via a redirect to avoid link breakages in the future.
  • In "the dissolution of a popular opposition party, the Future Forward Party..." you added the definite article inside the link, causing an unnecessary pipe. It should have been "the Future Forward Party".
  • In the same sentence, you changed "the military-dominated government's, led by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, crackdown on the 2020–2021 Thai protests calling for democratic reforms" to "the military-dominated government's crackdown on the 2020–2021 Thai protests calling for democratic reforms, led by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha," which was ambiguous and made it sound like Prayut was leading the protests for democratic reforms rather than the crackdown. This isn't an issue of Wikipedia style in particular but of writing in general. I changed it to "the military-dominated Prayut Chan-o-cha government's crackdown on the 2020–2021 Thai protests calling for democratic reforms."
Other than these, your work is already pretty good. Most of the issues here concern linking, of which there are many intricacies covered by the Manual of Style, but they'll come to you as you continue to edit. --Paul_012 (talk) 11:12, 17 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
