Wing removal for "routine maintenance"?
[edit]The article includes a claim, cited to "Forsyth 2016" (Robert Forsyth's 2016 Osprey book on the He 162), that "It was not possible to remove the wing without first removing the engine, an arrangement that would have hindered routine maintenance of the aircraft." A friend who is a big aviation fan complained to me about this claim, finding it hard to believe that the wing was removed for routine maintenance in the first place. I agree that it needs a more complete explanation, since for most aircraft, removing the wing is a major operation in itself and is not required for routine maintenance. - The cited source is available online, I read page 14 but could not see this fact, you could ask the editor who edited it to check/clarify or read it yourself as I may have missed it. There would be flight control systems in the mid-fuselage, elevator, rudder and aileron cables/rods/bellcranks/pulleys and turnbuckles for cable tensioning. Inspection of these and cable tension checks are generally part of second line routine maintenance or is called for anytime that access is gained for other reasons (opportunity servicing, engine off, wing off, let's have a look inside).
