The lead section talks about Haji Sulong's opposition to
“
General Phibun's concept of 'Thainess', where the identity of the Thai people was intertwined with an obligation to be Buddhist, speak Thai, and love the monarchy.
”
These certainly are aspects of "Thainess", but calling it Phibun's seems strange. Buddhism and speaking Thai are fine, but under Phibun, surely the role of the monarchy was de-emphasized if anything? Including the monarchy doesn't sound like Phibun's conception of Thainess but rather the one held by the pre-1932 absolute monarchy or its ideological continuations in the royalist movement.
