Design and construction
Is it possible to have a brief description of these three designs or perhaps a footnote?
- Added a brief note.
Is it not based on rather than based off?
- Yes, changed
Does the £20,165 include fitting out?
- Winfield doesn't stipulate, just "to the builder"
- Probably not then but best to leave as is, I think.
I normally add conversion templates to cannon (ball) weights. Is there any reason why you haven't?
- I consider these the names of the weapon just as must as they are the description of them and don't want to break that up with conversions
- Okay, fair point.
Characteristics
Do we know how her speed related to Pyramus?
- Note added for Pyramus and Bucephalus speeds. The latter especially disappointing; 3.5 knots slower!
Out of interest, when Gardiner says she handled well even in the roughest weather, does he refer back to the height of her gun ports above the waterline?
- He notes the lack of freeboard in the performance description, but doesn't directly correlate it to the "sea-kindly hull...comfortable in the heaviest gales".
- Okay, that's a shame.
Jamaica and Haiti
You use a cost comparison template here. I am not unhappy with you doing so but why here and not elsewhere?
- In previous reviews I've been advised not to use it for ship construction costs because the comparison doesn't work
- I'm somewhat in agreement. Where sources do compare, the values are always much higher than those given by the templates. McGowan says, "It is virtually impossible to relate such costs in the late 18th century to today's values with any accuracy".
Home service
Do we know why Cumby was absent?
- Sources don't say but Cumby's wife died near Plymouth on 21 January, which I think is likely to be the reason.
- Again, bit of a shame but if the source doesn't directly link it....
You mention the end of the wars but the only war spoken of thus far is the Hatian civil war. Perhaps explain that Hyperion was built during the Napoleonic wars?
- This is mentioned in the first design paragraph
- Sorry, missed that.
Is it possible, perhaps by way of a footnote, to explain that prior to the iron tanks being installed, Hyperion had no tanks to replace but carried her drinking water in wooden barrels? Currently it sounds like this was a replacement in iron of a pre-existing storage tank.
- Added mention of wooden casks.
South America
Does the value of the specie account for the lead in any way?
- Sources don't say whether this is the actual value or the assumed (pre lead) value
- Okay, let's leave as is.
Who profitted from its protection, the Royal Navy or members of Hyperion's crew?
- I don't have specific details for this trip, but generally it was the captain
- Thought that was probably the case. Was this with the full knowledge and blessing of the Admiralty?
- I believe so, although sources aren't explicit about it. The local British consuls were definitely involved.
- Thought that was probably the case. Was this with the full knowledge and blessing of the Admiralty?
Cape of Good Hope and anti-piracy
I believe co-ordinated is hyphenated in British English.
- Done
General
- Earwig's copyvio tool returns 9.1% (all titles of sources) violation unlikely. [[1]]
- No duplicate links detected.
- Article is well written.
- Sources are reliable (source check not deemed necessary).
- Conforms to MOS.
@Pickersgill-Cunliffe: That's all. --Ykraps (talk) 08:23, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Ykraps: Hi, thanks very much for the review! I think I've covered everything now. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 21:19, 19 April 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for another nice little ship article. I had a quick look to see if I could find any more info but you appear to have made the best of the sources available. Well done. --Ykraps (talk) 07:57, 20 April 2025 (UTC)
