Death-spiral HatNote
[edit]I added a necessarily verbose HatNote reading
- This article is about spirals executed with the spiraling skater's center of gravity close to the axis of rotation. For the four types of far-off-balance spirals, see Death spiral (figure skating).
because:
- Most non-specialists would otherwise assume the death spiral and its 3 variations should be considered "figure skating spirals", and wade into the article searching for them.
- Omitting "... For the four types of far-off-balance spirals..." would mislead those who don't realize that the life spiral, cosmic spiral, and love spiral are types of skating death spiral; they may thus assume that Death spiral (figure skating) is restricted to what people mean when they say "Charlotte spiral", "Charlotte death spiral", "classic death spiral", or "original death spiral".
- Omitting "executed with the spiraling skater's center of gravity close to the axis of rotation" would produce counterproductive shock and awe by suddenly, at the last-moment, introducing into the discussion the (AFAICsee necessary) classical mechanics concepts.

Why Spiral Dropped in sp?
[edit]Why was the spiral dropped from the sp in 2010? This should be mentioned.50.202.81.2 (talk) 17:38, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

- Figure skating spirals → Spiral (figure skating)
- Figure skating jumps → Jump (figure skating)
- Figure skating lifts → Lift (figure skating)
- Figure skating spins → Spin (figure skating)
– This does not seem to be an appropriate WP:NATURALDAB. The pluralisation as a matter of Wikipedia:Naming conventions (plurals) may be open to discussion, though. 1234qwer1234qwer4 02:10, 31 March 2025 (UTC) — Relisting. TarnishedPathtalk 03:02, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- Support all of these. Bgsu98 (Talk) 13:52, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- Why? It is of course up to the closer whether they consider your !vote, but you might like to consider wp:discard and give some reasons. Andrewa (talk) 06:24, 7 April 2025 (UTC)

- Oppose all. See WP:PARENDIS Adding a disambiguating term in parentheses after the ambiguous name is Wikipedia's standard disambiguation technique when none of the other solutions lead to an optimal article title. (my emphasis). This is not the case here, when natural disambiguation is perfectly acceptable. However, the singular forms should be adopted, see Wikipedia:Naming conventions (plurals). - Comment: See also Talk:Split jump#Requested move 31 March 2025 which I have just closed... of course this could be challenged as there was little participation. Andrewa (talk) 07:35, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
