"In colloquial usage, the term is sometimes used to distinguish non-military law enforcement officers and (in the US) firefighters from support staff or the general public. Regardless, such members are civilians - not military personnel - and are bound by municipal; civil and criminal law to the same extent as other members of the public."

Term of Art

Under the subheading "Termination and failed appeal," the article states, "The appeals court concluded that the LAPD had substantial evidence for its finding that Dorner was not credible in his allegations against Evans."

I belive that "substantial" is in this case a term of art (See St. Elizabeth Com. Hosp. v. Heckler, 745 F. 2d 587 - Court of Appeals, 9th Circuit 1984) and ought to be noted as such. 108.35.116.52 (talk) 04:31, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
