According to a paper published in 2022 (https://doi.org/10.1073/pnas.2205986119), all of the Cerdocyonina evolved from an ancestral species about 3.5-3.9 MYA, based on genomic evidence. I don't have the scientific knowledge to read through the paper and use it to modify this article, but it's clear that updates need to be done. MiscGezork (talk) 07:00, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
