Birthplace

[edit]

English Wikipedia page says he's born in Shanghai. Chinese Wikipedia page says he's born in Los Angeles. Any reputable English source on his birthplace? Kylinki (talk) 03:52, 18 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Nationality context in lead

[edit]

MOS:CONTEXTBIO defines what is what goes in the intro sentence of the lead. Nationalty is where person is a permenant resident and does all notable activites which in this case is American. Former nationality and birth location don't belong. Wang left China as a child and emigrated to the US with his mother, was raised in US and did all notable activities in the US. MOS:ETHNICITY is explicitly excluded from mention so Chinese-American, an ethnicity adjective, is not a valid description. Geraldo Perez (talk) 18:04, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am amazed at the way Americans reason in which according to you, a person born in China, of Chinese parents and who speaks Chinese does not belong to China just because he grew up in the United States.
So his whole identity magically disappears just because he resides and works in the US? Ridiculous. 2806:2F0:62A0:F1E5:2558:ECDD:8:7A4C (talk) 22:06, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
His family chose to leave China and become Americans. Chinese heritage is covered in article. It doesn't go in lead as not relevant in any way to his notability. Geraldo Perez (talk) 22:23, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ay geraldo, ni tú te la crees. eso de "convertirse" en estadounidenses no existe, ni que fuera religión. Es chino y punto. 2806:2F0:62A0:F1E5:2558:ECDD:8:7A4C (talk) 01:35, 30 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

He is Chinese and will always be Chinese. 2806:2F0:62A0:F1E5:2558:ECDD:8:7A4C (talk) 22:35, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Work do not define the identity or race of a person. Why you don't understand?

[edit]

Ben Wang is and always will be Chinese by heritage, race, language and nationality. That's not under discussion. Work do not define the identity or race of a person. Why you don't understand it Geraldo Pérez? 2806:2F0:41A4:E20B:14C2:414D:AFAF:6F2C (talk) 22:32, 9 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, per MOS:CONTEXTBIO, notable work does defined how a person is described in the the lead. His ethnicity is irrelevant. We have a manual of style, follow it. Geraldo Perez (talk) 23:16, 9 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Ben Wang (actor)Ben WangWP:TWODABS with a clear primary topic. While I'm sure that Ben Wang (materials scientist) has contributed nicely to his field, the actor has gotten more than a thousand times as many views over the accessible history of the articles, and is the star of the next Karate Kid movie, scheduled for release in less than two months (with more lined up after that). There will be no coming down from that in terms of notability. Move this article and quash the disambiguation page, adding the scientist as a hatnote. BD2412 T 17:31, 8 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed with all the points made by nominator. Rickyc123 (talk) 06:49, 9 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
