It's 36 French pounds

[edit]

The French article states the weight of shot in kilograms, which I've added to the English article. The 36-pounder name comes from the weight of shot in pre-metric French pounds, which is close to 39 English pounds.

Hello,
Thanks for your article !
I'm a tourist guide in Antwerp and very recently here they dug up the barrel of a French 36-pounder.
Now I'm preparing an article for the quarterly magazine of the Antwerp tourists guide on this subject.
Your article is a big help.
But something is really puzzling me ... 14 gunners ?
The canon is not big enough to fit them around it ?
On contemporary paintings I find only 4 gunners standing around.
And in your description of how it was operated I also count 4 gunners ...
So what about the 10 others ? GoofyAntwerp (talk) 22:00, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I was too fast.
Your article mentions a total of 14 men, only 12 gunners.
But that leaves still a surplus of 8 ... ? GoofyAntwerp (talk) 22:14, 18 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
