Raul Grijalva dead at 77.
[edit]Rep. Raul Grijalva has passed away at the age of 77. This will most likely trigger a special election within the coming months.

"Cancelled" special election for New York's 21st congressional district
[edit]I do not think that "cancelled" is the best terminology here, because that implies that it had been called to begin with, when it hadn't been. However, I can't think of another phrasing at the moment, hence why I came here to start a discussion. AG202 (talk) 19:14, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
- Agreed, I really struggled trying to think of the right word to use. I settled on "potential," but another editor changed it to "cancelled," which I had considered but rejected due to the reason you said. Not sure what would work best. Hypothetical? Theoretical? - Does the section need as much detail has it has (i.e declined candidates)? 66.99.15.163 (talk) 18:23, 7 April 2025 (UTC)
- Why not? These are people who publicly said they wouldn't run and this information is cited to reliable sources. Is it really hurting anyone to preserve this information at the bottom of a relatively small page? BottleOfChocolateMilk (talk) 01:45, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
- I would argue yes, it does. Just because something can be cited to a reliable source does not mean it is notable enough to include. Because the election never even happened, very little about it remains particularly notable. I would ask, in five, or even two, years, will it matter in the slightest what candidates declined to run in a special election that never even happened? Having this information in the article, especially considering how much space it takes up relative to everything else, makes it seem a lot more important than it actually is. As such, I argue that much of it should be removed from the page. OutlawRun (talk) 14:38, 22 May 2025 (UTC)
