I found about this earlier Pangujm (talk) 12:43, 23 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The time and location seem to match. Shame that no one's updating the storm's met history... Tavantius (talk) 00:04, 24 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It has a low chance of forming Pangujm (talk) 15:16, 24 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll try to add that if I have time. Tavantius (talk) 17:11, 24 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Medium chance according to my track or something Pangujm (talk) 20:46, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
High chance forming now Pangujm (talk) 22:03, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Track Map

[edit]

The track map that you can see on the front page of the article is totally inaccurate, why does the track map only feature one tropical cyclone? Trixlll (talk) 10:10, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It is out of date (last updated in December), and needs to be updated. — Iunetalk 18:46, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I have a question, where do yall make track maps? im genuinly curious Trixlll (talk) 09:13, 15 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Trixlll: see WP:WPTC/Tracks. Jasper Deng (talk) 03:58, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Make an article on Sean?

[edit]

Sean is the strongest cyclone in 2025, or at least at the creation of this topic

And it could also be the deadliest and costliest cyclone in Australia right now , so……. 210.3.50.94 (talk) 23:58, 22 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Good idea, working on it 203.218.159.12 (talk) 14:14, 23 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
i was about to ask that. AppleofBillie93 (talk) 17:53, 26 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
so im good AppleofBillie93 (talk) 17:54, 26 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Only minor damage has been recorded from Sean, so I would oppose an article being created unless some more major damage comes to light on the basis that it was either the strongest, deadliest or most damaging cyclone of 2025 so far.Jason Rees (talk) 20:37, 26 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, and the section is super short. Please expand the section first before making a new article. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 20:41, 26 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I do agree, @Hurricanehink. AppleofBillie93 (talk) 12:49, 28 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Low 12U

[edit]

Why wasn't this added to the article?

Also, unrelated but 16U should be added. Thanks! JustThatNerdyNerd (Let's chat!) 06:26, 1 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

TC Vince

[edit]

According to this website that trackes tropical cyclones, TC Vince is still active and did not dissipate on February 4th. So did TC Vince dissipate on Feb 4th or is still active???? Trixlll (talk) 04:27, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Nowhere does it say it dissipated on February 4th. It left the basin on the 4th. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 05:40, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oh ok Trixlll (talk) 04:00, 19 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Alfred instead of Anthony

[edit]

http://www.bom.gov.au/cyclone/tropical-cyclone-knowledge-centre/understanding/tc-names/ Grifforzer (talk) 02:35, 13 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

So.. should the list include the switching of Alfred and Anthony on the naming list since it's the next cyclone name now? Grifforzer (talk) 07:31, 13 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This is the first I have heard of the names being switched and I have reached put to the BoM's Tropical Cyclone Manager to verify the change.Jason Rees (talk) 14:40, 13 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The tropical cyclone manager came back to me and confirmed the switch as well as the reasoning behind it. Since it's only a minor change, it's not worth highlighting the change but I will update the naming lists later.Jason Rees (talk) 15:33, 13 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I have gone ahead and added a note on the switch to the article now that we have RS coverage of the change. JavaHurricane 12:20, 18 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Category 5 or 4? 210.3.50.94 (talk) 03:42, 13 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It's Category 4 to me with speeds of over 150 Miles per hour, possibly 155 now through. 112.201.230.186 (talk) 14:11, 13 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
In terms of the Australian scale (Bureau of Meteorology), it is a Category 5, but in terms of the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, it is a Category 4.
BOM has it at 125mph Category 5
JTWC has it at 150mph Category 4

Tropical Low 20U

[edit]

Why is there no information about Tropical Low 20U? It doesn't even have a track map and image Trixlll (talk) 04:02, 19 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Ya, that's what I mean. I hope someone give respon for this one. No any track for 20U. MAS0802 13:43, 3 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

TC Alfred Arcticle

[edit]

TC Alfred currently poses a significant risk to the QLD coast, including the highly populated cities of Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and the Sunshine Coast. This seems like a storm which should get its own arcticle, especially now that Brisbane is under a TC Watch. SquishyWikii (talk) 01:08, 3 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. We can make a draft for this cyclone as well. MAS0802 13:42, 3 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This is the link for draft.

Alfred dissipation date

[edit]

I'd like to draw attention to the way BoM marks the dissipation date of tropical systems. On the map they use the term "ex-tropical cyclone" but this does NOT mean "extratropical cyclone". All it is communicating is that it is now below cyclone strength, but it is still a tropical system. This can be seen on http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDQ65002.shtml where under the details heading it currently says "Intensity: tropical low, sustained winds near the centre of 55 kilometres per hour with wind gusts to 85 kilometres per hour". Alfred is currently still a tropical low and will continue being so until this section of the BoM website says otherwise, therefore it should not list "8 March" as the dissipation date and for now should still say "Present". This same thing occurred with Jasper in 2023 - it became a tropical low on 13 December but didn't actually dissipate until 18 December, which resulted in a 5 day long edit war because people didn't understand that BoM terminology. Can we please be vigilant with the Alfred section as it happens again this time. Maple Doctor (talk) 03:34, 8 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, thanks for your full information about tropical system. MAS0802 03:26, 21 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

ACE

[edit]

As stated in various other places I am fed up of seeing the ACE in this and other Southern Hemisphere articles being added in based on what CSU says it is, when neither CSU nor the JTWC whose data they base it on are an official warning agency for the region. I also consider it to be original research since you are calculating it yourself and not relying on a source that directly says that the total ACE for the season was XYZ as CSU does not split it into the three regions and rather just lumps it together and misses 09U. As a result, I am opposed to it going into any of the Southern Hemisphere seasons, until such a time as the official agencies (These are the MFR, BoM, BMKG, PNG NWS, FMS or MetService) tell us how much ACE a specific season has obtained. I also note that using terms such as tropical depression and tropical storm in this basin will confuse our readers since the terms are not used in this basin.Jason Rees (talk) 10:01, 3 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Errol Update Needed

[edit]

At 2AM Wednesday, Errol is currently at 145 MPH, and is a Very intense Tropical Cyclone, and possibly a Category 5 Severe Tropical Cyclone. 2601:58A:8500:BE40:CCB6:F57:474B:692C (talk) 11:58, 16 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Pillar8908: While Errol is an interesting system, I think that you need to take a step back and realise what Wikipedia considers notable for an article and I'm not sure Errol cuts it at the moment.Jason Rees (talk) 01:24, 17 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Though its threatening Darby as a C2/C1 203.218.159.12 (talk) 11:38, 17 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I believe its already submitted and the article itself is published. Owen is the best GG (talk) 03:41, 23 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I could see making a draft for Errol, but there's no need to write in all caps. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 16:56, 17 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Pillar8908: - you wanted to create an article for Errol. Can you add to the information in the season article at all? ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 04:20, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Which image to use for Errol

[edit]

There's been some edit warring over which image to use, but nobody has opened a discussion which is a core part of the bold, revert, discuss process. Pinging those involved: @Mr Hurricanes @IPhone13Researchx @MAS0802 @Final-Fantasy-HH @223.16.216.90

Discuss and come to a consensus, if you need help then there are many options to assist like starting an RFC, asking for a third opinion, or using the dispute resolution noticeboard. But first, please discuss:

0520z is better, i think so. Vệ Thần - Talk 01:24, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
But, 0520 was at Category 3, and 1337 was the closest to the peak intensity. Some of you might say the there were two peak intensities, but 1337 is the closest to the second peak intensity. 223.16.216.90 (talk) 11:59, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
What about 0810 then 223.16.216.90 (talk) 12:08, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

25U

[edit]

The BoM has announced that 25U has been upgraded to a TC during post analysis.Jason Rees (talk) 00:21, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Tropical Lows & Other systems

[edit]

I am not sure I see why any of the tropical lows above should just reside in "Other Systems" as after all the BoM is the primary TCWC for this basin and the majority of these will have been mentioned in the STWA by the JTWC and have appeared in the BoM's weekly climate note.Jason Rees (talk) 11:30, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah. Should we move them back? 223.16.216.90 (talk) 12:04, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Assuming that we can source each and tell the story of each system, then I don't see why not.Jason Rees (talk) 10:45, 18 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm agree. Vệ Thần - Talk 01:26, 19 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
But there are some, like 16U, that don’t tell the story of the system. 223.16.216.90 (talk) 08:57, 22 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. 210.3.50.94 (talk) 01:33, 19 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I do agree. There are various systems like 30U and 33U have JTWC designations, so I believe the ones with JTWC designations should be placed in their own sections. 2003 LN6 18:40, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm. Maybe, but as BoM is the primary weather agency here, it might be called unofficial, and might start an edit war. 223.16.216.90 (talk) 10:46, 2 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
They include 07U, 30U and 33U 223.16.216.90 (talk) 10:47, 2 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
A little heads-up: I'll be moving 07U, 30U and 33U back to their own sections as I am currently working on revamping the entire article. Regards, 👦 13:51, 2 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Can somebody help me move the systems? It’s really tiring work. 223.16.216.90 (talk) 09:42, 4 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Bit late to this discussion but i think any of the minor tropical lows that weren't classified as tropical storms by the JTWC should be in the other systems section Sria-72 (talk) 21:06, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
