Wrong Knockout stage results

[edit]

The final was between Argentina and France. This article shows Argentina and Spain. There are also several wrong match results. 100.15.89.222 (talk) 18:56, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Final standings

[edit]

Hi! We've previously removed these sections because FIFA haven't made such announcements on newer tournaments. Should we really be making unofficial rankings based on an article by the Sporting News? Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 16:08, 21 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Messi

[edit]

@Marco Carrasco: Regarding this edit, where you toned down the wording "based on source", where exactly does the source say that it took Messi the World Cup victory to only become regarded as "one of the greatest" players of all time? He very much was already seen as one of the greatest, and indeed by quite a few as the single greatest, and the World Cup was the only accolade he was missing. The text is quite long and I wasn't able to read it all, but I did see the following posted about him: "a man with no boxes left to tick in his career, a player who can rightly claim his place in the argument as the best of all time". This certainly does not justify the change, even if milder statements also exist in the publication. --Theurgist (talk) 17:59, 11 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely correct. Those who changed it and kept it that way for quite some time had an oblique agenda. Wikipedia should not operate that way. If the credible sources state that he needed it to become "the" greatest, not merely "one of the" greatest - which credible sources establish that he was regarded as such since at least 2010-2011, it's highly manipulative to pervert the language of the 2022-2023 sources which are very clear in stating that they are talking about him now being regarded as "the" greatest, not "one of the". If anything it's almost Orwellian to try distort sources and language in such a way. Wikipedia must not be abused by those with a hidden agenda. The sources are very clear stating that it is about him being regarded as "the" greatest. 165.140.231.11 (talk) 22:35, 26 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Should we add the final stadings like what we did in this one? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_FIFA_World_Cup#Final_standings 2A02:587:6D15:9300:FD4F:4F7E:8118:F80C (talk) 14:14, 3 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not done for now I think it's a good idea but we should wait until after the tournament to add one. Adeletron 3030 (talkedits) 15:26, 3 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
