8 teams made the playoffs according to the bracket. The format section says the top 2 teams by conference plus next 6 teams make the playoffs. This means, according to the format section, 10 teams should make the playoffs. As such, either the top team by conference + 6 wild cards make the playoffs or top 2 by conference + 4 wild cards. On 31 July 2024, it was proposed that this article be moved from 2010 MLS Cup Playoffs to 2010 MLS Cup playoffs. The result of the discussion was moved.
