This article is a complete mess

The body of the article indicates that this election was won by John S. Hager, which it was. He was elected to fill the vacancy resulting from the resignation of Eugene Casserly, whose term was to end on March 3, 1875.

But someone thought this was the election of Newton Booth, for the full term beginning March 4, 1875. WHY would that election have been held more than a year before the beginning of the new term? And if Booth--who was governor at the time--was elected senator in 1873, why did he remain governor for a full year afterward?

No wonder I was forbidden to write questions for quizbowl competitions using this website. Rontrigger (talk) 11:06, 25 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
