St Leonard's Church is the parish church of Blithfield[1] in the East Staffordshire district of Staffordshire, England. It is located directly northwest of Blithfield Hall which is under the ownership of the Bagot Family.[2] The church is a Grade I listed building, given the listed status by Historic England in January 1966.[3]
History
[edit]The church dates back to the 13th century and was built under the ownership of Blithfield Hall.[4] It was built for the Bagot family and contains many tombstones dedicated to the Bagot Family over the centuries.[5] The church was also built to serve the surrounding hamlets and villages near the hall, which it continues to do today.[6]
Churchyard Cross
[edit]
Near St. Leonard's church is a churchyard cross. This structure was built in the 14th century by the Bagot Family and is described as being:
GV II Churchyard cross. C14 steps and base, cross and shaft of c.1814. Octagonal steps to simple base and elaborately carved shaft tapering slightly towards the top surmounted by elaborate canopied crucifix on oversailing base.
