Sophie Robinson is a British interior stylist, designer, broadcaster, and journalist, celebrated for her fearless use of colour and joyful approach to interiors. She is widely known as a leading voice on maximalism, personality-packed home design, and appears regularly on UK television, including as a guest judge on BBC One’s Interior Design Masters, a guest judge on BBC 2's The Great Interior Design Challenge, and the presenter of Dream Home Makeovers with Sophie Robinson on Channel 5.

Education and career

[edit]

Robinson attended Kingsley School in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire.[1][2] Later, she studied 3D design at Brighton University in the late 1990s, intending to become a product or furniture designer.[3][4]

After graduating in 1997, Robinson moved to London where she had a workshop at Cockpit Arts, a social enterprise scheme which supports people to grow businesses.[5] She initially began assisting with interior design projects to help pay her rent, which led to a career working on shopping pages in magazines before her first full-time job as an in-house stylist for the BBC Good Homes magazine from 2000 to 2005.[4][6][7]

She then became a freelance interior designer for eleven years in London before moving back to Sussex where she continues to live and work as a freelance interior stylist, designer and journalist.[3]

Today, she runs a successful media brand encompassing television appearances, an award-winning blog, brand collaborations, and a chart-topping podcast, The Great Indoors, which she co-hosts with interiors journalist Kate Watson-Smyth.

Robinson also teaches her signature approach to colourful interior design through a series of online and in-person workshops and masterclasses.

Television

[edit]

Robinson made her first television appearance as an on-screen designer for ITV's 60 Minute Makeover, where she worked for five years. She subsequently appeared on Channel 5’s Cowboy Builders.

In January 2014, she became one of the judges on BBC 2's The Great Interior Design Challenge.[6][8] Robinson left the show as lead judge after the third series to spend time with her son, but was a guest judge during the fourth series.[9][10] She was replaced on the show by interior designer Kelly Hoppen.[9]

She is currently a regular guest judge on BBC One’s Interior Design Masters, hosted by Alan Carr, offering expert insight and critiques to up-and-coming interior designers.

In 2022, Robinson fronted her own TV series, Dream Home Makeovers with Sophie Robinson, on Channel 5, where she helped homeowners transform their spaces through colour, pattern, and styling without major structural work.

Robinson has also been a guest expert on ITV's This Morning and continues to appear across television, radio and press, commenting on interiors trends and design stories.

Brand Collaborations

[edit]

Robinson has launched successful product ranges with several leading brands. In 2023, she partnered with Harlequin (part of the Sanderson Design Group) to release a collection of fabrics and wallpapers showcasing her bold, colourful aesthetic.

In Spring 2025, she launched an expansive range with Dunelm. The collection was a 'maximalist's tool kit'[11] featuring over 200 products across bedding, furniture, lighting, garden decor, and accessories, aimed at helping consumers create vibrant, maximalist interiors.

Personal life

[edit]

Robinson lives in Sussex with her son, Arthur, and their dog Lucy.

At the age of 21, Robinson became a rally driver after being encouraged by her father, Adrian, to take up the sport[1][12] and competed in the British Rally Championship.[13]
