Seth Michael Halvorsen (born February 18, 2000) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball (MLB).
Amateur career
[edit]A native of Chicago, Illinois, Halvorsen attended Heritage Christian Academy and was selected in the 30th round of the 2018 MLB draft by the Minnesota Twins. He opted instead to play college baseball at the University of Missouri and the University of Tennessee. In 2021, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks of the Cape Cod Baseball League.[1] Halvorsen was selected again in the 19th round of the 2021 MLB draft by the Philadelphia Phillies, but did not sign.[2][3]
Professional career
[edit]Halvorsen was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the seventh round of the 2023 MLB draft and signed.[4] He split his first professional season between the rookie–level Arizona Complex League Rockies, High–A Spokane Indians, and Double–A Hartford Yard Goats. In 13 appearances for the three affiliates, he compiled a 2–0 record and 2.70 ERA with 13 strikeouts across 13+1⁄3 innings pitched.[5]
Halvorsen began the 2024 campaign with Double–A Hartford, and earned a promotion to the Triple–A Albuquerque Isotopes in early August. In 41 total appearances out of the bullpen, he accumulated a 5–2 record and 4.47 ERA with 56 strikeouts across 44+1⁄3 innings pitched.[6]
On August 30, 2024, Halvorsen was selected to the 40-man roster and promoted to the major leagues for the first time.[7] On September 21, he earned his first career save, tossing a scoreless inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers.[8]
