Salin Man Bania (Nepali: सलिन मान बानिया; born 5 May 1995), credited as Salin Man Baniya, is a Nepalese actor and model known for his work in Nepali cinema.[1] He is one of the highest paid and leading actor of Nepalese film industry.

He made his acting debut in Jharana Thapa's teen film A Mero Hajur 2 (2017). Then he appeared in Yatra: A Musical Vlog (2019).[2] Bania is the recipient of several awards, including one Kamana Film Awards and NEFTA Film Awards each, in addition to one NFDC National Film Awards nomination.[3]

Early life

Bania was born on 5 May 1995 in Kathmandu, Nepal.[4] His Paternal Grandfather, Prem Bania is also a renowned producer, and director of his time.[5] He did his schooling from Galaxy Public School. He continued his studies at ACE Higher Secondary School for his intermediate education (12th). Later, he pursued his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (BBA) from Uniglobe College.[2]

Career

2017–2019: Debut and setback

In 2017, Bania debuted as a film actor in Jharana Thapa's romantic drama A Mero Hajur 2, where he starred alongside Samragyee RL Shah. The film set a record for the highest single-day box office in Nepal, grossing NPR 16.2 million (16,200,000).[6] Sandhya Ghimire of OnlineKhabar wrote, "The movie keeps the audience laughing as we relate to the foolish things we have had done to gain the attention of our crushes in school. As the story unfolds, we are taken on a train ride back to good old school days and a multitude of wavelets of nostalgia wash over us.[7]

In 2019, he played the lead role in a musical drama Yatra: A Musical Vlog, where he starred alongside Mallika Mahat and Salon Basnet.[8] The film has garnered multiple reviews and acclaim for its subtle story.[9] While choosing the role, he said:

One of the main reasons to choose the film is its storyline. The film has ability to entertain the audience. It is a unique amalgamation of love, affection, culture, tourism and social issues. I was really impressed by the story and recommend this film to everyone. The exclusive twists and turns of the film will take audience into a roller coaster journey.[10]

But the film failed at box office, where it earned est. NPR 4 million.[11]

In 2018, Bania and the team of A Mero Hajur 2 donated aid of 76 thousand to singer Jaljala Pariyar for her kidney treatment.[12]

Entrepreneurship

In 2017, he launched his own fashionable men's clothing brand, named Banmania.[13]

In 2022, he was appointed as a judge for Mister and Miss National Nepal.[14]

Due to his large number of fan following and popularity in the country,[15] he was listed in the 100 Asian Heartthrobs along side, international stars Lin Gengxin, Tawan Vihokratana and Henry Golding.[16][17]

In 2018, he was listed in the Nepali Sansar publication's Top Actor list, he was placed in 2nd position after Anmol Kc.[18] In 2019, he was also on the list of 'Top 10 Men and Women of the Year in Nepal' published by Saptahik.[19]

Bania is regarded as one of the most notable and prominent young actors in Nepali cinema.[15] He is also noted for his fashion sense. Nepali Sansar publication stated that, "His looks and charming smile make him one of the most sought-after actors in Nepal and is the reason for his large fan-following in a short while".[18] Cinema Times publication stated that, "when Bania, was about to make his debut with A Mero Hajur 2, he had already created a good craze among the audience even before the release of the movie. His Korean looks and personality was the important reason in creating this craze. He came into the media's attention after signing the movie".[20][21]
