Rakkam Ampang Sangma is an Indian politician who is a Member of the Legislative Assembly from the Indian state of Meghalaya of North East India since 2018 from 58 Rongara-Siju assembly. He currently serves as a Cabinet Minister in the State Government of Meghalaya for the departments of education,[2] border areas development and general administration department, Government of Meghalaya.[3]
Early career
[edit]Rakkam was an assistant lecturer at Baghmara higher secondary school.[4] His father's name is Shri Ringban S Marak, he obtained his M.Sc. degree in physics from North Eastern Hill University.[5]
Political career
[edit]Rakkam started his political career as an Independent candidate contesting from the Rongara-Siju Asssembly Constituency in the year of 2013 at the age of 29.[6] In 2014 he joined the National Peoples Party under the leadership of Shri Purno A Sangma who was the former Speaker of Loksabha and 4th chief minister of Meghalaya and again contested from the same constituency in 2018 and won in 2018 Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Election.[7] Rakkam contested from the same constituency in 2023 Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Election and won with a huge majority,[8][7] this time his party made him a cabinet minister and gave responsibilities of ministries of 3 departments namely Education Department, Border areas development, General Administration Department.[9]
